Here in Japan our Christmas was pretty quiet. In the next city over the kids were still going to school on Christmas Day though my area was already on winter vacation. Y-kun came over (at 9:00am) and we took Mi to the vet's for an inoculation, had noodles for lunch and did Christmas shopping for the evening church service. Oh... and we also did a bit more sewing on Y-kun's quilt. Nowhere near finished yet... Tetsu had to work as usual and he won't have any time off until New Year's.
Our church evening service was attended by less people than usual. Is is just too cold or are all the members just becoming older? If even the Christians don't come to an Eve service then I guess we can't expect non-Christians to attend. It is true that we are pretty limited on man-power so no special programs or events. Only four or five children...We had a Christmas ice cream sundae table after the service and that was very popular!

Our church had a family service at 4pm, my husband ran a Japanese language service at 5:20 (for curious walk-in people wanting to add to the Christmas spirit, but not really knowing what it was all about.).. and to leave a bit more room for attendees of the two Candlelight services to follow at 6:30 and 8:30pm) There was also a service Christmas day, but I was in the kitchen working on the turkey.
ReplyDeleteI think , though the demographics of the foreign community in Tokyo is changing, there are always people who only think of Christian traditions at Christmas and Easter, and show up. There were also relatives of regular members and returnees and tourists too.
The pictures look like enamel on copper, it is lovely.
