Word of the year: SMILE
"He will once again fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy." -- Job 8:21
12/31/2024 — James 5:16
“So admit your broken ways one to another and pray for each other that you may be healed. The prayer of one in good standing with Creator is powerful and good medicine.” — James 5:16 — First Nations Version
Who here is the broken one? Is it me? And do I ask for prayers? Or am I the one who is called to pray for others? Can I claim to be in good standing with God?
12/30/2024 — Romans 15:13
“My prayer for the Outside Nations is that the Great Spirit, who gives you this hope, will fill you with the joy and peace that comes from trusting him, so that this hope will flow like a river through your lives by the power of his Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13 — First Nations Version
Thank you Lord for the hope you’ve put in our hearts. Don’t let doubt or cynicism take our hope away. And for friends who have lost hope, give them a spark to grasp. Please make us aware of from where the hope comes.
12/29/2024 — Philippians 4:7
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 — New International Revised Version
We do have a peace that I don’t understand. How is this possible? Because God is with us. Because He has given us a foundation built on His truth. Because we go to Him daily…
12/28/2024 — 2 Corinthians 12:9
“The gift of my great kindness will give you the strength you need,” our Honored Chief said to me. “For the greatness of my power comes to the ones who understand how weak they are.” So then, I am glad to brag even more about how weak I am, so it can be clearly seen that the power resting on me comes from the Chosen One.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 — First Nations Version
I can’t deny the weaknesses of my body, (I get tired more easily) and mind, (I keep forgetting things!) Maybe the weakness of my motivation is what bothers me most (that and wrinkles). Let God’s strength become my strength and allow Him to work through me.
12/27/2024 — Ecclesiastes 3:1
“Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 — Good News Bible
God is using all of our time. He is orchestrating our future and no time is being wasted. This season seems long and drawn out but God is using it for His (and our) good.
12/26/2024 — Luke 2:20
“The shepherds returned to their fields, giving thanks to the Great Spirit for the wonders they had seen and heard.” — Luke 2:20 — First Nations Version
Do I recognize the wonders I’ve seen? And then do I thank God? And finally, do I tell others? God has given us blessings this year in spite of sadness. I thank Him daily for the mercy He’s shown and ask for His continued protection and direction. In the vaguest of ways I witness to His love and care…
12/25/2024 — Luke 2:19
“But Mary kept thinking about all this and wondering what it meant.” Luke 2:19 — Common English Version
What is wonder? What is wondering? And wonderful? Don’t let things pass you by. Stop and wonder. Be filled with wonder. And in this time give thanks.
12/24/2024 — Luke 2:10
“When they saw the star rising in the East, they jumped with joy, and with glad hearts they followed until the star stopped and rested over the place where the child was.” Luke 2:10 — First Nations Version
I’m considering my One Word for next year and maybe it will be WONDER. I want to be filled with wonder at the WONDERFUL things in my life.
12/23/2024 — 2 Corinthians 5:20
“So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”” 2 Corinthians 5:20 — New Living Bible
What a poor example of an ambassador I am. I can’t shout out the wish I desire the most. I dilly-dally and hope people know what I want for them…. I become depressed at rejection…. How do I let God speak THROUGH me?
12/22/2024 — James 2:1
“My brothers and sisters, practice your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ by not favoring one person over another.” James 2:1 — God’s Word
If I am guilty of playing favoritism it may be the way I treat someone when I hear or know they are Christian. I open up more easily, I am more trusting, I consider them part of my family in Christ. EVERYONE was made by God. We are all God’s children.
12/21/2024 — Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts on whatever is right or deserves praise: things that are true, honorable, fair, pure, acceptable, or commendable.” Philippians 4:8 — God’s Word
In my sadness, in my worry, in my shame, in my despair, I look for something beautiful, some joy, something that is good in a bad situation. God gives me moments of peace.
12/20/2024 — James 1:2
“My Christian friends, remember to be happy, even when many kinds of trouble happen to you. Troubles can help you.” James 1:2 — Easy English Bible
How do I find joy in a troubled situation? I can see the connections between the family as growing stronger, not being taken for granted. I can see how gifts don’t have to be bought or even made. A gift can be a presence, a smile, a kind word, a prayer. It is a joy to give these in abundance.
12/19/2024 — Philippians 2:3
“But when you do these things, make sure you do them for the right reasons. Do not let selfish ways take you down a path of bragging or trying to look better than others. Instead, let humility be your guide as you honor others above yourself.” Philippians 2:3 — First Nations Version
In this Christmas season do not cling to your own time selfishly. Use it for hubby, and others close by. Do not decorate to impress but to enjoy yourselves. Use your time to think of God and what Jesus birth has done for me.
12/18/2024 — Psalm 86:11
“Teach me, LORD, what you want me to do, and I will obey you faithfully; teach me to serve you with complete devotion.” Psalms 86:11 — Good News Bible
This is the purpose of my life. He made me to worship Him, to love Him and to enjoy Him and the life He has given me.
12/17/2024 — Psalm 95:6-7
“Come, let us bow down and worship him; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! He is our God; we are the people he cares for, the flock for which he provides. Listen today to what he says:” Psalms 95:6-7 — Good News Bible
Joining others in worship makes me feel like I’m glimpsing heaven where all God’s flock will gather to sing praises and worship eternally.
12/16/2024 — Job 1:20-21
“Job stood up, tore his robe in grief, and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother, and naked I will return. The Lord has given, and the Lord has taken away! May the name of the Lord be praised.”” Job 1:20-21
Even the saints of the Bible faced despair yet, like Job, they acknowledged their grief but chose to continue to worship and praise God. He gives and takes blessings. Thank You, Lord for loving us.
12/15/2024 — James 5:13
“Is anyone among you in trouble? Then that person should pray. Is anyone among you happy? Then that person should sing songs of praise.” James 5:13 — New International Revised Version
And what if that person isn’t a praying person…? Then I should pray in the gap. But this verse is for ME. Am I in trouble? Have troubles? Of course, yes. Then pray. And when happy, sing praises!
12/14/2024 — Hebrews 4:16
“So with brave hearts let us come before Creator’s seat of honor to receive mercy and the gift of his great kindness to help us in our time of need.” — Hebrews 4:16 — First Nations Version
What a miracle and gift that we can talk directly to God. We do not have to go to church to do so (though I love going to church!). We do not have to have an inspiring book or person, to teach us (the Bible is not an inspiring book… it is God’s Word!)
12/13/2024 — James 4:2
“You don’t have the things you want, because you don’t pray for them.” James 4:2 — God’s Word
I pray. I lay my wishes and concerns before God, asking Him to intervene. I give my requests to God as He sees fit to work with them. I remind myself to be patient and hopeful. God knows what is best in my life.
12/12/2024 — John 15:7
“But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon.” — John 15:7 — Message Bible
God always acts. He is not tired or asleep or busy or uninterested. If I ask, I know He has heard and already has moved mountains to make things good…. Good for me, good for His world.
12/11/2024 — 1 Corinthians 1:4
“I am always thanking my God for you because he has given you such free and open access to his grace through your union with Jesus, the Messiah.” — 1 Corinthians 1:4 — The Passion Translation
Take my focus off of what the answers are to my prayer and onto the relationship with God that grows deeper with each prayer.
12/10/2024 — Revelations5:8
“And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.” Revelation 5:8 — New International Version
My prayers are unstoppable! Once they are sent to God, even Satan can’t stop them! And they don’t burn out, fade away…. God keeps them as precious throughout eternity. NOT praying is the only way God will not get my prayers!
12/9/2024 — John 14:16
“For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to him.” John 14:13 — The Passion Translation
I’m back to wondering why my prayers are so lukewarm. Is it just because my timing and place are off, or is it because my faith is off? The desire is there but I don’t get the insistent feeling that I seek…
12/8/2024 — Romans 8:38-39
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 — New International Revised Version
It may seem that we are in a hard place. Nothing can reach us, we aren’t free to make choices. God is here now. He is arranging things and working for our future. Although we are separated from all else we are not separated from Him.
12/7/2024 — 1 Peter 4:8
“Continue to love each other very much. That is more important than anything else. If you love people, you will forgive them for any wrong things that they have done.” 1 Peter 4:8 — Easy English Bible
This is a hard verse for me to understand. There are some people who are hard to love… and I know, I should let God’s love flow THROUGH me. What about people who continue to hurt, to grasp, to take advantage and think only of themselves? How do I love and forgive them?
12/6/2024 — Jeremiah 10:23
“Lord, I know that nobody controls their own life. Nobody can decide what will happen to them.” Jeremiah 10:23 — Easy English Bible
I think that my choices DO make a difference but God is leading me to those very choices…. What suddenly occurs is just what God sees as best for my future.
12/5/2024 — 1 Peter 1:6
“Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer.” 1 Peter 1:6 — Good News Bible
How can this situation be good? How can I rejoice and see it as a gift? God says this trial is making everything even better for our futures. It is hard to believe but I choose to. That is my gift of faith to God.
12/4/2024 — Ephesians 3:18
“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” Ephesians 3:18 — New Living Translation
God’s love can break through every crevice and crack in a person’s pride and sin. He can use every situation and every person to channel His love. He is using me daily.
12/3/2024 — 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 — New International Revised Version
I want to always be joyful. I believe it is the best way to witness to God’s presence. The problems that steal my joy, the worries I have for the future, lay them down again, and again and let Jesus take care of them. God hears. God knows. God controls all. Relax in Him.
12/2/2024 — Ephesians 6:2-3
“Scripture says, “Honor your father and mother.” That is the first commandment that has a promise. “Then things will go well with you. You will live a long time on the earth.” Ephesians 6:2-3
I wonder how well I honored my own father and mother… I wonder if I have acted, am acting, in ways that my children would wish to embrace.
12/1/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:22
“Avoid the passions of youth, and strive for righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who with a pure heart call out to the Lord for help.”
2 Timothy 2:22 — Good News Bible
I am at an age where I should have the urge to gossip and meddle, the need for popular approval and pride filled actions under control. Seeking to live in a godly way, I need to be with godly people.
11/30/2024 — James 1:5
“But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask.” James 1:5 — Common English Bible
I often don’t know what to pray for. There are SO many problems in the world and I have enough of my own that I don’t know how to ask for direction let alone miracles! I’ve left most of my praying to things and people who pop into mind when my head is bowed.
11/29/2024 — 1 Corinthians 15:33
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 — King James Bible
So many prayers I’ve prayed yet God chose to let the very thing I feared happen. It is a consequence but I wonder what all those prayers meant…
11/28/2024 — Zechariah 4:6
“Then the angel said to me, ‘These lamps are a picture of the message that the Lord says to Zerubbabel: “Your own strength and your own power will not give you success. It is my Spirit that will give you success.” That is what the Lord Almighty says.” Zechariah 4:6 — Easy English Bible
How do I suggest that a person’s success and influence is not by their own merits but because of God’s goodness and guidance without seeming to make light of the person? By expressing gratitude at God’s work in my own life.
11/27/2024 — Luke 18:1
“Jesus was telling them a parable about their need to pray continuously and not to be discouraged.” Luke 18:1 — Common English Bible
Keep on praying. God doesn’t need reminding but I do. In prayer I am reminded that I promised to trust God with my problems. That I don’t need to find a solution on my own but instead, wait for God to lead me.
11/26/2024 — Luke 1:37
“Nothing is impossible for God.”” Luke 1:37 — Common English Bible
I catch myself being apologetic about the Bible’s message, or I try not to expect much from God because I don’t want to be disappointed or give non-believers reason to scoff. God is stronger than I let Him be. God DOES miracles and I should expect them!
Jesus bring ____ and _____ into a close relationship with You! I believe (in my unbelief) this is Your will. There! I’ve said it!
11/25/2024 — 2 Corinthians 5:17
“So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 — Common English Bible
I’ve got to get my head to “this verse God has given me today is for ME.” I keep thinking that I wish so and so would take this to heart… I have a new life to live everyday that I wake up to. Stop pulling out old fears, old regrets and old hurts. The other so and so might benefit from knowing this but I need to live it.
11/24/2024 — John 21:6
“He said, “Cast your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” So they did, and there were so many fish that they couldn’t haul in the net.” John 21:6 — Common English Bible
Don’t give up. It may look like I’m not influencing anyone, I’m not bringing people to Jesus… but He says “try again”. …and again… and again. God performs the miracles, I just let down the net.
11/23/2024 — Acts 9:18
“All at once, the crusty substance that was over Saul’s eyes disappeared and he could see perfectly. Immediately, he got up and was baptized.” Acts 9:18 — The Passion Translation
God can work miracles! He can take the world’s woes away and allow a person to see eternity and the truth of Jesus. I must not give up praying for family members and friends who still have their eyes blurred.
11/22/2024 — Romans 10:13
“And it’s true: “Everyone who calls on the Lord’s name will experience new life.”” Romans 10:13 — The Passion Translation
I call on the name of Jesus daily when I’m praying. I speak His name first of all when I am afraid, when in despair. I love to praise Jesus’ name in song.
11/21/2024 — John 10:10
“A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect —life in its fullness until you overflow!” John 10:10 — The Passion Translation
Am I letting my life be taken from me? What could I be enjoying more and why am I not taking advantage of the opportunity now? I “enjoy” when I go out and do things but I’m “content” to be a stick in the mud. Is this what God wants?
11/20/2024 — Psalm 40:5
“You have done many things for us, O LORD our God; there is no one like you! You have made many wonderful plans for us. I could never speak of them all — their number is so great!” Psalms 40:5 — Good News Bible
Am I looking for miracles and blessings and proof of God’s love in my Bible? Look in my own life! Look at all He has done and is doing! To God be all the glory!
11/19/2024 — 1 Chronicles 16:34
“Give thanks to the LORD, because he is good; his love is eternal.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 — Good News Bible
I believe that God is good when everything is going right in my world. That’s what I see! But God is also good when things are hard… and declaring that takes faith. God is more concerned with the growth of my faith than my satisfaction.
11/18/2024 — 1 John 5:14-15
“We are certain God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. And if we know God listens when we pray, we are sure our prayers have already been answered.” 1 John 5:14-15 — Contemporary English Version
What is my definition of answered prayer? If it is getting everything I ask for then prayer doesn’t work. If it is that I grow closer to God and allow Him to use me, then prayer works every time.
11/17/2024 — James 5:13
“If any of you are having trouble, pray. If you are happy, sing psalms.” James 5:13 — God’s Word
It is simple. Pray when you have troubles. Pray (praise) when you are happy! That about covers it!
11/16/2024 — Colossians 3:15
“Let the Chosen One guide you on the path of peace and harmony, and then as his one body this peace will be the guiding light in your hearts as you give thanks to the Great Spirit.” Colossians 3:15
Learning to pray doesn’t offer us a less busy life; it offers us a less busy heart. - Paul E. Miller
Thankful people are happy people and happy people have peace in their hearts.
11/15/2024 — Psalm 103:11-12
“As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.” — Psalms 103:11-12 — Message Bible
The threshold of God is confession of sin. Tell God how you’ve failed (though He already knows) then go to Him joyfully, knowing He welcomes me with love!
11/14/2024 — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Make your life a prayer.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 — The Passion Translation
What a beautiful image. I don’t have to be praying with flowery words or a certain times a day or in special places or for a certain length of time. My LIFE can be my prayer to God… a constant, unending conversation with no “Amen” to end it.
11/13/2024 — John 17:9
“So with deep love, I pray for my disciples. I’m not asking on behalf of the unbelieving world, but for those who belong to you, those you have given me.” John 17:9 — The Passion Translation
Jesus teaches us how to pray. He demonstrates the many times and places and ways that He prays. He knows what we go through and He prays for US!
11/12/2024 — Romans 12:12
“Be happy, because you can trust God to do what he says. Be patient when you suffer. Always continue to pray.” Romans 12:12 — Easy English Bible
I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but I want to be a prayer warrior, yet my prayers are short and rote and lack conviction. I want to get a conversation going with God throughout the day…
11/11/2024 — 1 Corinthians 10:13
“There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans. God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist. But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 — God’s Word
I am tempted to be proud. I am temped to be fatalistic. I am tempted to be self centered. I am tempted to be overly dependent on others. God shows me SOME of the ways I fight against temptation…. At least knowing lets me rely more on Him.
11/10/2024 — James 1:19-20
“My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things God wants done.” James 1:19-20 — Common English Bible
I think that I don’t get angry easily, but maybe I just express it with sulking and moodiness. Not all anger is bad though…. If I’m angry it means I think something I love is being threatened. Make sure my love for whatever is well-placed…
11/9/2024 — James 4:11-12
“Don’t bad-mouth each other, friends. It’s God’s Word, his Message, his Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that kind of talk. You’re supposed to be honoring the Message, not writing graffiti all over it. God is in charge of deciding human destiny. Who do you think you are to meddle in the destiny of others?” James 4:11-12 — Message Bible
Right now, this is a bit hard for me. I’m not happy about the world and find it easy to criticize and rant. Keep me from judging. I certainly couldn’t do the job of world leaders. Be at peace and at rest knowing that God has the ultimate authority and will direct all our paths.
11/8/2024 — Luke 6:35
“But love your enemies and be good to them. Lend without expecting to be paid back. Then you will get a great reward, and you will be the true children of God in heaven. He is good even to people who are unthankful and cruel.” — Luke 6:35 — Common English Bible
I’m not sure who my enemy is. I know whom I think is evil and harmful and God says to pray for them, expecting nothing in return. I will pray. I will not let my opinion ruin my view of people who have a different perspective. Pray for the world, for myself, for God’s will to be done.
11/7/2024 — Psalms 73:26
“My mind and my body may grow weak, but God is my strength; he is all I ever need.” Psalms 73:26 — Good News Bible
So true. But the Bible says God will use me even in my last days. I can’t imagine it but I’ll look forward to it.
11/6/2024 — Luke 12:26
“If you can't manage even such a small thing, why worry about the other things?” Luke 12:26 — Good News Bible
I am so small and understand so little. Why do I think that my worrying is going to change anything? Leave it to God. Take action if He leads me in a direction, but relax in knowing He understands where I don’t.
11/5/2024 — Micah 6:8
“No, the LORD has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God.” Micah 6:8 — Good News Bible
I love this verse… in all translations. God asks me to be right with others and to recognize that God requires justice. My job is love unconditionally even in the justice being paid…. And I am to stay true to God and simple depend on Him.
11/4/2024 — Luke 18:34
“The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.” Luke 18:34 — New American Standard Version
I have a blasé attitude to understanding. I don’t really care if I do or I don’t. Maybe I’ve just given up TRYING to understand because there are too many things beyond me? I am encouraged that faith is more important than understanding and so I don’t grasp at understanding something. Is that a defeatist attitude or a spiritual one?
11/3/2024 — Matthew 6:13
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ’” Matthew 6:13 — New International Revised Version
God will not lead me into temptation, but as His follower, I have to keep my eyes on Him, my hand in His hand.
11/2/2024 — Matthew 6:13
““Guide us away from the things that tempt us to stray from your good road, and set us free from the evil one and his worthless ways. Aho! May it be so!” — Matthew 6:13 - First Nations Version
But what if God decides to let us fall into things that lead us away from him? He is always there with forgiveness to bring us back into his plan.
11/1/2024 — Matthew 6:11-12
“Give us our daily bread today. Forgive us as we forgive others.” Matthew 6:11-12 — God’s Word
Realize and acknowledge that God is my Provider, not just for food but for everything. Ask God for pardon, but remember, I’m required to be forgiving myself.
10/31/2024 — Luke 22:42
“He said, “Father, if it’s your will, take this cup of suffering away from me. However, not my will but your will must be done.”” Luke 22:42 — Common English Bible
“Prayer is not about convincing God to do your bidding. It’s about allowing Him to move you to the place where you are willing to do His.”
10/30/2024 — Luke 11:1
“Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”” Luke 11:1 — Common English Bible
I know how to pray… I’ve been doing it all my life. But I feel my prayers lack passion, and even worse, expectation. Grace before meals isn’t enough, nor the midnight pleadings, nor just reading the rich, uplifting prayers of others. Jesus, teach me to pray.
10/29/2024 — 1 Peter 5:8
“Be alert, be on the watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams round like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 — Good News Bible
I am aware that Satan is trying to get me to doubt God’s presence in my life. He wants me to assume everything negative will come to pass. I CHOOSE to claim Jesus’ promise that God has only good for me!
10/28/2024 — Jeremiah 33:3
““Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about.” Jeremiah 33:3 — Good News Bible
A tapestry, a symphony, a beautiful world. Each part of my life, the joyous and the weary, make up a glorious span of time in God’s creation. Each person and each event makes up God’s door to eternity. The small fragments become God’s masterpieces.
10/27/2024 — Ephesians 4:32
“Instead, be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another, as God has forgiven you through Christ.” — Ephesians 4:32 — Good News Bible
It really doesn’t take much to be kind so why does it seem we see less kindness. Kindness is made of listening to someone, of smiling at them, keeping your promise, not taking offense.
10/26/2024 — Philippians 1:12
“My sacred family members, I want you to know that the hard times I find myself facing have not held me back. Instead, new ground has been gained for the telling of the good story.” Small Man to the Sacred Family in Village of Horses 1:12 — First Nations Version
Stop thinking I am a victim. Think that God has already started great things and I’m grateful to be used by Him!
10/25/2024 — Ephesians 6:12
“We aren’t fighting against human enemies but against rulers, authorities, forces of cosmic darkness, and spiritual powers of evil in the heavens.” Ephesians 6:12 — Common English Bible
My fear is not against people but against Satan who has stepped closer and spread His evil. And against evil, only God can win. Stay close to God to fight evil.
10/24/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:11
“And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.” 2 Corinthians 1:11 New Living Bible
My prayers matter. Even if the person I’m praying for isn’t a believer, God hears me, the person is carried by God and I have another reason to be thankful.
10/23/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:6
“Besides, if we suffer, it brings you comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, we can effectively comfort you when you endure the same sufferings that we endure.” 2 Corinthians 1:6 — God’s Word
The problems that I deal with in prayer and patience I pray will be a witness and encouragement to my loved ones.
10/22/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:12
“We are proud that our conscience is clear. We are proud of the way that we have lived in this world. We have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity, especially toward you. It was not by human wisdom that we have lived but by God’s kindness.” 2 Corinthians 1:12 — God’s Word
I fear I never know what I’m supposed to say when telling someone about God, but it is not clever words that people’s hearts are moved but by sincerity and God’s kindness.
10/21/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:10
“God saved us from the threat of death, and we are sure that he will do it again and again.” 2 Corinthians 1:10 — Contemporary English Version
God doesn’t get tired or irritated of rescuing us over and over again. He doesn’t even mind my doubting He will and asking for help over and over again.
10/20/2024 — 2Corinthians 1:9
“We ourselves thought that we would certainly die. We knew that we could not trust our own strength. We had to trust God. He is the one who causes dead people to rise up to new life. So we could trust him to make us strong.” 2 Corinthians 1:9 — Easy English Bible
There are some things too painful to imagine, too impossible to believe. I’ve wondered how we might live through it all or if it might be better to pass on to eternal life with Jesus than to bear the hopelessness. Day by day I learn that joy and laughter are possible while still praying for hope and deliverance.
10/19/2024 — Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 — New International Revised Version
Guarding my heart means I send my worrying thoughts (and they will come). If I want a bright tomorrow, I have to think brightly about today. My situation is not giving me anxiety, my THOUGHTS about the situation are giving me anxiety!
10/18/2024 — Philippians 4:11
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” Philippians 4:11 — New International Revised Version
If you learn to be content in every situation, you will be rich in any situation.
“Contentment is an attitude that says, I will be satisfied with what God has given me.”
10/17/2024 — Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 — New International Revised Version
CALM
A - Ask, and that means pray. Pray about little things, pray about big things. Pray specifically. Pray honestly.
10/16/2024 — Philippians 4:4
“Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! — Philippians 4:4 — Message Bible
There are a lot of things I could worry about…. But God says not to worry. There is an acronym, CALM. The C stands for: Celebrate God! He is in control! He knows everything and He is a good and loving God! And He cares about ME! A stands for: ASK L stands for: LOOK M stands for: MEDITATE Today, celebrate God and His presence in my life!
10/15/2024 — Psalm 27:13-14
“I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with God.” Psalms 27:13-14
Remember each blessing God has given me. It is worth writing down each day or else I tend to forget! Huge blessings stay with me but I need to thank God for the myriad of small blessings too.
10/14/2024 — Philippians 4:12
“I know how to live in poverty or prosperity. No matter what the situation, I’ve learned the secret of how to live when I’m full or when I’m hungry, when I have too much or when I have too little.” Philippians 4:12 — God’s Word
I am LEARNING to be content in all situations and the only way to practice that is to go through times that aren’t what I desired. I have to experience discontent to learn contentment. The good and the bad are all part of learning to live with God.
10/13/2024 — 1 John 1:9
“If we name our broken ways, our Creator can be trusted to release us from them and purify us from all wrongdoing.” First Letter from He Shows Goodwill 1:9 — First Nations Version
For us who believe this is a wonderful comfort! There is nothing we can do that will separate us from Him!
10/12/2024 — John 15:4
““Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can’t bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can’t bear fruit unless you are joined with me.” John 15:4 — Message Bible
I draw near to God… reaching out to Him in praise or in prayer and I believe He draws near to me… though actually He is always here. His drawing near means I see Him in my life a bit more clearly… I recognize His blessings and His small miracles.
10/11/2024 — Nahum 1:7
“The Lord is good. When people are in trouble, they can go to him for safety. He takes good care of those who trust in him.” Nahum 1:7 — New International Revised Version
I always feel like I’m missing something. Other people have stronger faith, lead selfless lives, have families devoted to God. I wonder if I’ve brought troubles on myself and that’s why my life hasn’t brought glory to God. It’s still a work in progress…
10/10/2024 — Psalm 27:13
“Here is something I am still sure of. I will see the Lord’s goodness while I’m still alive.” Psalm 27:13 — New International Revised Version
I can’t honestly say I’m SURE of this but I’m hoping that I’ll see what God is making out of the mess things are in. He has a good future in mind… but I can’t foresee it. That is what faith is!
10/9/2024 — Romans 12:12
“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” Romans 12:12 — New Living Translation
God wants me to be hopeful. He gives me promises to cling to. He assures me that even though my prayers haven’t been answered yet, they will be, so be patient and keep praying.
10/8/2024 — Hebrews 12:1
“So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us. Let’s throw off any extra baggage, get rid of the sin that trips us up,” Hebrews 12:1 — Common English Bible
We are in God’s race but the person who finishes first isn’t necessarily the winner. Each participant has different hurdles and different types of paths. Each participant is running in a different direction. The goal line is still with Jesus at the end.
10/7/2024 — Psalm 63:4,5
“So I will bless you as long as I’m alive; I will lift up my hands in your name. I’m fully satisfied— as with a rich dinner. My mouth speaks praise with joy on my lips—” Psalms 63:4-5
In my own wilderness, praying for something good, I choose to praise God and surrender, (lifting my hands) to His will. I WILL be satisfied with where God has placed me and with His timing.
10/6/2024 — Psalm 18:20
“The Lord has been good to me because I do what is right. He has rewarded me because I lead a pure life.” Psalm 18:20 — New International Revised Version
I’m pretty sure this is NOT what the Bible is saying but am I in this sad valley because I didn’t live a pure life? God doesn’t punish like that. He IS good to me! He rewards me because He loves me. He also doesn’t answer my prayers my because He loves me.
10/5/3024 — Psalm 54:4,6
“But I know that God helps me. The Lord is the one who keeps me going. I will sacrifice an offering to you just because I choose to. Lord, I will praise your name because it is good.” Psalm 54:4, 6 — New International Revised Version
David wrote this BEFORE God had saved him, and he chose to praise God and believe in His intervention when things were hopeless. I can CHOOSE to praise and believe and offer myself no matter what situation I am in. God will come through!
10/4/2024 — Psalm 57:7
“God, I have decided to trust you always. Yes, I will trust you! I will sing songs to praise you!” Psalms 57:7 — Easy English Bible
Yes, it is a decision and one I make daily. I don’t understand. I’m sad. I certainly didn’t expect this time and thought God would keep us. But it is not over yet and I choose to trust my Lord.
10/3/2024 — Psalms 52:9
“I will always praise you, God, for what you have done. I will trust you to help me, together with all those who serve you.” Psalms 52:9 — Easy English Bible
I get my greatest confidence and feel most secure when I am with other believers. Being surrounded in prayer, knowing that we are all calling on God and praising Him, calms my heart and soothes my worries.
10/2/2024 — Psalm 34:3
“Proclaim with me the LORD's greatness; let us praise his name together!” Psalms 34:3 — Good News Bible
I love praising God in my church’s worship service! Our voices joining together growing in power, harmonizing and making my bleating sound beautiful.
10/1/2024 — Psalm 56:8
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalms 56:8 — New Living Translation
God knows. He knows my every thought. He knows even more than I know, what is making me sad and upset. Take heart and continue to praise Him. He’s made good my sorrows of before. He will do it again.
9/30/2024 — Psalm 59:16
“But I will sing to praise you. I will sing about your strength! In the morning, I will praise you for your faithful love. Because you are the strong place where I can hide. When I am in trouble, you keep me safe.” Psalms 59:16 — Easy English Bible
God has not answered my prayers as I’d wished but He is still working according to His plans. Sometimes I feel that there is nowhere else to go even if I’d want to… but I claim His promise that He loves me and has the best for me.
9/29/2024 — 1 Corinthians 15:43-44
“Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.” 1 Corinthians 15:43-44 — New Living Translation
No matter how my body ages and grows weak and achy, there is a glorious spiritual body waiting for me. Hallelujah!
9/28/2024 — Isaiah 30:21
“When you turn to the right or turn to the left, you will hear his voice behind you to guide you, saying, “This is the right path; follow it.”” Isaiah 30:21 — The Passion Translation
I would so like to hear God’s voice telling me exactly where to go and what to do. And it’s interesting to me that no matter which way God leads me, it’s the right way!
9/27/2024 — Ecclesiastes 7:10
“Don’t ask, “Why were things better in the old days than they are now?” It isn’t wisdom that leads you to ask this!” Ecclesiastes 7:10 — God’s Word
Stop believing the lies that things were better in the past. That you were more attractive, that you had more accomplishments. There are countless rewards you’ve been given between whenever then was and now. All the days of my life are adding up to a wondrous life.
9/26/2024 — Isaiah 40:31
“But those who trust in the Lord will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah 40:31 — New International Revised Version
I’m in the latter part of my life BUT IT’S NOT OVER YET!!! God can still use me even though I’m slower and don’t have the energy of years past. I just have to be open to God’s urgings.
9/25/2024 — Revelation 21:4-5
“‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death.’ (Isaiah 25:8) And there will be no more sadness. There will be no more crying or pain. Things are no longer the way they used to be.” He who was sitting on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down. You can trust these words. They are true.”” Revelation 21:4-5 — New International Revised Version
These verses make me tear up. I look to the time when all is behind and only joy and a bright future remain. Will those days ever come? God is changing everything for my good. See what He will do!
9/24/2024 — James1:12
“Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life.” James 1:12 — Message Bible
God gives life and more life. When I’m in God’s waiting room I tend to be more interested in my future life here on earth and eternity with God takes second place…. I want relief now. Forgive me Lord for not understanding Your true blessing.
9/23/2024 — Romans 8:28
“We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose,” Romans 8:28 — Contemporary English Version
I want to get past the question of “why”, “Why has this happened?” “Why our family?” to “how”. “How is God going to turn this to good?” “How is He going to change me for His purpose?”
9/22/2024 — James 1:4
“Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won’t need anything.” James 1:4 — God’s Word
There is a reason. God is molding me, transforming me, conforming me to the person He wants me to be. And He is using hardships in my life to do it.
9/21/2024 — 1 Peter 5:8-9
“Think seriously about how you live. Watch carefully for danger. Remember that the Devil is your enemy. He wants to hurt you. He walks about like a hungry lion. He is looking for someone to kill and then eat them! But you must be strong to fight against him. Trust God completely. Remember this: Believers all over the world are having the same kind of trouble.” 1 Peter 5:8-9 — Easy English Bible
Okay. I’m definitely not the only one in hardships. My family is going through the same and more. If I threw out my problem with everyone else’s I might choose to take back my own…. How is God going to turn this into a blessing?
9/20/2024 — 2 Kings 4:2
“Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”” 2 Kings 4:2 — New International Revised Version
Here again, God (through Elisha) says “What do you have…?” Even with only the smallest of resources God provides. But the widow had to take a step of faith…. I have more than a jar of oil, but am I ready to use my resources…? And what are they?
9/19/2024 — Judges 6:13
“Gideon answered, “Please don't take this wrong, but if the Lord is helping us, then why have all of these awful things happened? We've heard how the Lord performed miracles and rescued our ancestors from Egypt. But those things happened long ago. Now the Lord has abandoned us to the Midianites.”” — Judges 6:13 — Contemporary English Version
I have asked this same question. “You said You would protect me and yet I’m devastated! What do You expect me to think?!” Thankfully, God is patient with my anger and fragility. The current situation is all part of His plan.
9/18/2924 — Luke 1:30
“The angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. God is honoring you.” Luke 1:30 — Common English Bible
I doubt that I’ll ever be able to see this time as being honored. I am thankful that God understands my insecurity and yet still comforts and guides me. I don’t understand, but understanding is never a requirement for worship.
I will worship anyway.
9/17/2024 — Matthew 9:22
“When Jesus turned and saw her he said, “Cheer up, daughter! Your faith has made you well.” At that very moment the woman became well.” Matthew 9:22 — God’s Word
I think this verse is also saying, “Be happy, Tanya! What you believed and prayed for to happen turned out even better than you imagined!” That day will come as long as I keep reaching for Jesus.
9/16/2024 — Exodus 3:12
“God replied, “I will be with you. And you will know that I am the one who sent you, when you worship me on this mountain after you have led my people out of Egypt.”” Exodus 3:12 — God’s Word
How will I know that God is with me? When I get my way? When the miracle I think will never happen, happens? I will know when I return to heaven… and bring with me others who love Jesus.
9/15/2024 — John 10:10
“A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way.” John 10:10 — New International Revised Version
However many years I have left in my life, God wants me to live it to its fullest. I have time… check out what I have in my hand (like Moses) and use it to make God’s world a better place.
9/14/2024 — Luke 12:19
“Then I can just sit back, surrounded with comfort and ease. I’ll enjoy life with no worries at all.’” Luke 12:19 — The Passion Translation
Gulp. This sounds so much like what I think my retirement life should be…. And it also sounds pretty self-centered. And I have a feeling what with age and health issues, this is not how it’s going to be. Just sitting around isn’t all that comfortable or engaging.
9/13/2024 — Matthew 22:37, 39
“And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37, 39 — New American Standard Version
So what am I doing in my retirement? God gave me basic instructions. Love Him (and worship Him) and love others God puts in my life!
9/12/2024 — Exodus 4:2
“Then the Lord asked him, “What’s that in your hand?” He answered, “A shepherd’s staff.”” Exodus 4:2 — God’s Word
What is in my hand? What talents do I have! I can speak Japanese fluently, I can sew pretty well and my sketches are improving. I am pretty good at writing… and all these things I like to do. Now, how will God use me?
9/11/2024 — Psalm 90:12
“Help us to remember that our days are numbered, and help us to interpret our lives correctly. Set your wisdom deeply in our hearts so that we may accept your correction.” Psalms 90:12 — The Passion Translation
I am 69 years old. I can imagine myself at 90. Take away 5 or 6 years of infirmity and needing help…. Then I have an imagined 15 years of active life. Now, what am I going to do with it!!!?
9/10/3024 — John 16:33
““I have told you all these things so you will have my peace. This world is full of sorrow, pain and trouble, but have strong hearts, for I have defeated the world.”” John 16:33 — First Nations Version
Satan is only concerned about my faith… robbing it from me! He attacks my health, my family, my future, in hopes of taking away my faith. Jesus is concerned about my health, my family and my eternity! Practice my faith and let Jesus take care of the rest!
9/9/2024 — Luke 22:42
““Father, if you are willing, take this cup of agony away from me. But no matter what, your will must be mine.”” Luke 22:42 — The Passion Translation
“No matter what, your will must be mine.”
That’s the prayer I want to pray. Not just that I give up my own hope and bow to God’s, but that what HE wants, I want to want the same thing! I want to be changed.
9/8/2024 — Hebrews 11:1
“Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1 — God’s Word
God does not withhold from me because He doesn’t care. He makes me wait because He is preparing me for something else.
9/7/2024 — John 11:5-6
“Now even though Jesus loved Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, he remained where he was for two more days.” John 11:5-6 — The Passion Translation
Jesus didn’t act quickly even when He was asked to by His good friends in a dire situation! He chose to have them wait because…? He had other plans for Lazarus? He knew there were things for Mary and Martha to learn in the time of waiting? It’s not just me that God is making to wait! Look at others whom God loved!
9/6/2024 — Isaiah 49:15
“Yahweh responds, “But how could a loving mother forget her nursing child and not deeply love the one she bore? Even if there is a mother who forgets her child, I could never, no never, forget you.” Isaiah 49:15 — The Passion Translation
I may feel alone and forgotten… especially by God but the Bible tells me that will never be so. We are in a period of waiting and uncertainty but God is working beyond boundaries of time and place.
9/5/2024 — Philippians 3:8
“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ” Philippians 3:8 — New Living Translation
All the things I consider important, if they are taken from me do I still have my faith? That’s the way it should be…. Losing health, losing family, losing security…. But Jesus always is beside me…. Can I remember that when I do not feel Him?
9/4/2024 — Ecclesiastes 11:5
“You don’t know the path the wind takes. You don’t know how a baby is made inside its mother. So you can’t understand how God works either. He made everything.” Ecclesiastes 11:5 — New International Revised Version
I am never going to be able to understand how or why God does things, how He allows certain things how He works everything together for all His children. That is what faith is. Not knowing or understanding or even LIKING what God allows but trusting He is always working.
9/3/2024 — Hebrews 10:24-25
“We should think about how to stir each other up toward love and doing good. To do this, we must never give up on gathering together, as some have. Instead, we should encourage each other, and all the more as you see the day of his appearing coming near.” Hebrews 10:24-25 — First Nations Version
When things are looking bad or when I’m not feeling well, it seems like a good excuse to worship at home though actually I know I feel more connected to God and others when I go to church.
9/2/2024 — Proverbs 3:5
“With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment.” Proverbs 3:5 —. Contemporary English Version
“You can’t believe everything you think.”
My brain is always trying to steer me wrong. You would think that I’d have it trained by now but it still goes about in negativity. Because I know my judgment isn’t always sound, commit to Scripture!
9/1/2024 — Romans 15:4
“Whatever was written beforehand is meant to instruct us in how to live. The Scriptures impart to us encouragement and inspiration so that we can live in hope and endure all things.” Romans 15:4 — The Passion Translation
Just when I need God’s encouragement and hope, Satan pulls me away with lies of how nothing has or is going to work out. The Scriptures are THERE. Even when I ache, don’t push them away. Commit yourself to believing again.
8/31/2024 — James 1:3-4
“You know you learn to endure by having your faith tested. But you must learn to endure everything, so you will be completely mature and not lacking in anything.” James 1:3-4 — Contemporary English Version
God uses every day, every experience to teach me and ready me for eternity. In this world I may never understand but I will see the full picture in heaven.
8/30/2024 — Psalms 27:17
“It takes a grinding wheel to sharpen a blade, and so one person sharpens the character of another.” Proverbs 27:17 — The Passion Translation
I am in this place at this time to do something and be something for some other person. And they are in their place to help and teach me.
8/29/2024 — Proverbs 31:25
“She shows her strength and people respect her. She is not afraid of what will happen in the future.” Proverbs 31:25 — Easy English Bible
Hmmm. That’s not happening this week. Nobody is respecting me as my attitude is low and I’m doing almost nothing. It is easy to feel worthless when the body and the heart are in a slump.
8/28/2024 — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Whatever may happen to you, continue to thank God. God wants you to do that, because you belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — Easy English Bible
Find something to be thankful for everyday. Coolness, green, quiet.

8/16/2024 — Philippians 2:3
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” Philippians 2:3 — New Living Translation
Things are not always the way I see them. I have learned the hard way how pride and boasting is a veil over reality. Don’t focus on yourself. Respect others’ opinions and experiences.
8/15/2024 — Colossians 3:23
“Whatever things you are doing, do them well. Remember that you are serving the Lord. You are not only serving people.” Colossians 3:23 — Easy English Bible
I am not going through life for my own glory nor for the compliments I might receive. I’m not acting in order to be acceptable to others. My awareness should be that God sees and is encouraging me to do my best.
8/14/2024 — 1 Corinthians 9:25
“A true athlete will be disciplined in every respect, practicing constant self-control in order to win a laurel wreath that quickly withers. But we run our race to win a victor’s crown that will last forever.” 1 Corinthians 9:25 — The Passion Translation
And I am reminded as I watch the Olympics, that I will never be disappointed with losing because assures me that my prize already has my name engraved on it.
8/13/2024 — John 8:31
“So Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, “If you live by what I say, you are truly my disciples.” John 8:31 — God’s Word
If I abide in God…. But what if I don’t? And every day I don’t obey as I should. God sees my heart though, not only my behavior. He sees the timeline of my life including responses to struggles, including shouts of praise. My life is not just my moments of failures.
8/12/2024 — Colossians 4:5
“When you are with people who do not believe in Christ, be careful how you live. Use every chance to do good things.” Colossians 4:5 — Easy English Bible
I wonder how I come across to unbelievers (even to believers!). I hope to project contentment and cheerfulness but I fear I miss the mark. I can see how I would be perceived as introverted and lacking passion.
Lord, make me just the person You want me to be to draw people to You.
8/11/2024 — Psalm 3:3
“But in the depths of my heart I truly know that you, Yahweh, have become my Shield; You take me and surround me with yourself. Your glory covers me continually. You lift high my head.” Psalms 3:3 — The Passion Translation

There are always problems, faith doesn’t change that. But what is the reason for my problems.. God allows them to teach and train those involved. We are being perfected for greater things in our lives and in our eternity.
8/9/2024 — Philippians 4:7
“Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 — Common English Bible

8/8/2024 — Philippians 4:13
“I can endure all these things through the power of the one who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 — Common English Bible
Only God knows what I endure and the things I work through. Just managing cheerfully is a surprise to me and it is because of my hope in God and His love that he funnels to me through His family.
8/7/2024 — 1 Peter 1:3
“Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on.” 1 Peter 1:3 — Contemporary English Version
Get up! Hang in there! God is good and there are good things around the next corner. There are possibilities never dreamed of and joys can be found each and every day.
8/6/2024 — Colossians 4:6
“Let every word you speak be drenched with grace and tempered with truth and clarity. For then you will be prepared to give a respectful answer to anyone who asks about your faith.” Colossians 4:6 — The Passion Translation
I want to be true to my faith but not be offensive in my presentation of it. I don’t need to have all the answers, I don’t need to be afraid of not being a good enough witness. God does the work.
8/5/2024 — James 4:6
“But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “God is opposed to the proud and haughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of] grace to the humble [who turn away from self-righteousness].” [Prov 3:34]” James 4:6 — Amplified Bible
I need God to help me live humbly, not thinking I have great knowledge to pass on, not to judge other’s issues and situations.
“It’s not about if you win or if you lose but how you win and how you lose.” — Stevan Micic - Olympic Wrestler
8/4/2024 — Matthew 6:33
““If you will make Creator’s good road your first aim, representing his right ways, he will make sure you have all you need for each day.” Gift from Creator Tells the Good Story 6:33 — First Nation’s Version
God has certainly given me all I need and more. Yet I still long for things, still cry over disappointments, still feel I should be entitled to the things I’ve become accustomed to. And I’m pretty sure I haven’t upheld my end of the deal… keeping God first in my life.
8/3/2024 — 2 Timothy 4:22
“I pray that the Lord will bless your life and will be kind to you.” 2 Timothy 4:22 — Contemporary English Version
What a blessing to receive. What a blessing to give.
God has and will fill my life with good things. I hope for good things in your lives also.
8/2/2024 — 2 Timothy 4:17
“However, the Lord stood by me and gave me strength so that I could finish spreading the Good News for all the nations to hear… 2 Timothy 4:17 — God’s Word
Friends change, I disappoint even myself, but God is always on my side.
8/1/2024 — 2 Timothy 4:9
“Make every effort to come to me soon;” 2 Timothy 4:9 — Amplified Bible
In times of emergency, in times of need, answer the call of your friend or family. Nothing is more important than showing love…. And Lord, train me to be able to respond in Your peace to both joyous calls and heartbreaking ones.
7/31/2024 — 2 Timothy 4:7
“I have fought the good fight. I have walked the good road to its end and stayed true to our spiritual ways.” — 2 Timothy 4:7 — First Nations Version
Only one thing. God gave me one job. To stay true to Him and His ways all the days of my life.
7/30/2024 — 2 Timothy 4:5
“But I want you to keep your head no matter what happens. Don’t give up when times are hard. Work to spread the good news. Do everything God has given you to do.” 2 Timothy 4:5 — New International Revised Version
Commit to trusting God and His plan to create beauty from the ashes of my pain.
7/29/2024 — 2 Timothy 3:14
“But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you.” 2 Timothy 3:14 — New Living Translation
This verse encourages me because I know that what I taught my children from their infancy has been planted in their hearts.
7/28/2024 — 2 Timothy 3:10
“But you, Timothy, have closely followed my example and the truth that I’ve imparted to you. You have modeled your life after the love and endurance I’ve demonstrated in my ministry by not giving up. The faith I have, you now have. What I have hungered for in life has now become your longing as well. The patience I have with others, you now demonstrate.” 2 Timothy 3:10 — The Passion Translation
What a testimony and beautiful celebration of passing on one’s faith. Have I been the person who emulates another’s faith? Is my faith an example for other believers?
7/27/2024 — 2 Timothy 3:5,7
“They will appear to have a godly life, but they will not let its power change them. Stay away from such people…. …These women are always studying but are never able to recognize the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:5, 7 — God’s Word
Do I really trust God’s power or am I living in what I perceive He is able to do and not boldly depending on Him? I study, I seek, I worship, I desire Him but do I live like it? I don’t want to feel guilty for my lacking but do I need to change and how?
7/26/2024 — 2 Timothy 3:1
“But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear].” 2 Timothy 3:1 — Amplified Bible
I see with my own eyes how society is acting out. Stress and trouble, violence and selfishness, disasters and pride. Things are getting hard and sometimes I wonder why I pray for good when God already spells out the inevitable. Stay firm.
7/25/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:25
“Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. Maybe God will lead them to turn to him and learn the truth.” 2 Timothy 2:25 — Contemporary English Version
God can always turn things around for someone. Don’t give up praying for them, loving them, sharing my faith when they appear open to it.
7/24/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:22
“…pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” 2 Timothy 2:22 — New Living Translation
The beginning of my week starts with passionate praise and joining other believers in chorus. This custom sets my heart to be positive and able to push doubts aside.
7/23/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:16
“Keep away from worthless and useless talk. It only leads people farther away from God.” 2 Timothy 2:16 — Contemporary English Version
This teaching is true for even the conversations I have in my brain. I berate myself for my past deeds or my omissions to do things I should have. These thoughts are just eroding my peace and faith. Stay focused on God’s Word.
7/22/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:12-13
“If we are joined with him in his sufferings, then we will reign together with him in his triumph. But if we disregard him, then he will also disregard us. But even if we are faithless, he will still be full of faith, for he never wavers in his faithfulness to us!” 2 Timothy 2:12-13 — The Passion Translation
I pray that I will always be faithful and will praise God through eternity. The hardships are seen by Him and He recognizes my battle to be positive and focused on His promises. God has His reasons and He doesn’t have to let me know them.
7/21/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:6
“And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.” 2 Timothy 2:6 — New Living Translation
God rewards the efforts we make. I don’t have to be the most spiritual, be the best witness or know my Bible completely. I just have to keep striving to be open to Him and His plans.
7/20/2024 — 2 Timothy 2:4
“A soldier does not take part in things that don’t have anything to do with the army. Instead, he tries to please his commanding officer.” 2 Timothy 2:4 — New International Revised Version
God has enlisted me to serve in His peace corps. My focusing on the hardships He has given me and how I want to escape them are distracting me from being a loyal and dependent member of His troops.
7/19/2024 — 2 Timothy 1:16
“May the Lord show special kindness to Onesiphorus and all his family because he often visited and encouraged me. He was never ashamed of me because I was in chains.” 2 Timothy 1:16 — New Living Translation
How can I be encouraging to someone who is struggling? By reaching out frequently and listening to them. By not being judgmental and by keeping them in prayer. That is what I’d want for myself.
7/18/2024 — 2 Timothy 1:14
“With the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, protect the Good News that has been entrusted to you.” 2 Timothy 1:14 — God’s Word
How do I protect the good news? By reading the message (the Bible) for myself, by making sure I’m not in error of understanding what God is saying, by asking the Holy Spirit to open my heart to God’s truths.
7/17/2024 — 2 Timothy 1:12
“That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12 — New International Version
I know what God has entrusted to me and I know what I have entrusted to Him. My trust is not in vain and God doesn’t need my approval to do whatever He wants with my treasures. All is well with Him.
7/16/2024 — 2 Timothy 1:7
“God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves.” 2 Timothy 1:7 — Easy English Bible
God says I have the power to step closer to Him and refuse to nurse negativity and fear. Don’t let my fears grow. God is in control.
7/15/2024 — 1 Timothy 1:3-4
“Every time I say your name in prayer—which is practically all the time—I thank God for you, the God I worship with my whole life in the tradition of my ancestors. I miss you a lot, especially when I remember that last tearful good-bye, and I look forward to a joy-packed reunion.” 2 Timothy 1:3-4 — Message Bible
This verse depicts so well how I feel about missing my children. Whenever God brings them to mind, (daily!) I pray for their health and contentment and their futures.
7/14/2024 — Psalm 118:1
“Keep on giving your thanks to God, for he is so good! His constant, tender love lasts forever!” Psalms 118:1 — The Passion Translation
Anyway…. Keep on giving thanks. A grateful heart gives contentment and joy and is important for mental and physical health.
7/13/2024 — Psalm 30:2
“O Lord my God, I cried out to you for help, and you healed me.” Psalms 30:2 — God’s Word
I don’t know how many times in the last year that I’ve said how amazed and grateful I am that my hip has been restored to the movement and ease it had for 66 years of my life.
We are too used to the miracles of medicine…. The surgeries that would have been impossible, the knowledge and skills the doctors have, the technology and funds to orchestrate everything for my benefit. Thank You, Lord!
7/12/2024 — Colossians 2:7
“Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:7 — Good News Bible
I’m thankful for WHO God is because I know He controls my present.
I’m thankful for HOW He has shown Himself faithful in the past by bringing me through sadness and even anger.
I’m thankful for WHAT He has provided, a good family, good healthcare, finances.
I’m thankful for WHOM He has placed in my life. Especially my thoughtful husband.
I’m thankful for WHERE He will guide and provide in the future, no matter where I end up I will know God has loved me.
7/11/2024 — Ephesians 4:26
“There are times when anger is the right thing, but do not let your anger turn into rage, for it will burn like a wildfire. Work things out before the sun sets that day,”
— Ephesians 4:26 — First Nations Bible
I don’t think I’m angry. Or do I just hide it well? I’m upset at how things are but I realize I have to get past that and live with resilience. God can always change things.
7/10/2024 — Matthew 11:28
““Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis.” Matthew 11:28 — The Passion Translation
My faith reassures me that God has wonderful things in store for me and a new start but sometimes I feel like I don’t WANT to start anything new. The future in front of me is maybe not long enough to make plans… God let me rest in Your comfort.
7/9/2024 — Psalm 51:6
“I know that you delight to set your truth deep in my spirit. So come into the hidden places of my heart and teach me wisdom.” Psalms 51:6 — The Passion Translation
There is no hiding from God. I may try and disguise my sin or deny it but God sees all and wants me to be frank. I try to camouflage my sin with fancy words and excuses, but it is there.
7/8/2024 — Psalm 5:1
“Listen, Lord, as I pray! Pay attention when I groan.” Psalms 5:1 — Contemporary English Version
I trusted God but He’s let heartache and worry enter my life. Where is the promise of good? I will wait. The only thing to do is wait. I will settle in to His comfort and expect wonderful things in the days to come…. But it is hard…
7/7/2024 — Psalm 19:14
“Lord, I want to make you happy. I want my words and my thoughts to please you. You are my strong Rock and you are my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 — Easy English Bible
My thoughts have to be pleasing to God. God is NOT abandoning us. God will NOT leave us in shame. God HAS a wonderful plan for our future. God is with us RIGHT NOW!
7/6/2024 — James 1:2-3
“My sacred family members, whenever your trust in the Great Spirit is tested, count it as a reason to dance for joy. For you know that when your trust is put to the test, your ability to stand firm grows stronger.” — James 1:2-3 — First Nations Version
Stop asking “why?” God doesn’t have to and never promised to answer the question “why?” Instead He is using this trial to teach me to depend on Him for happiness and comfort. He is breaking my life down into simpler forms of love and faithfulness.
7/5/2024 — Romans 8:17
“Since we are his children, we will possess the blessings he keeps for his people, and we will also possess with Christ what God has kept for him; for if we share Christ's suffering, we will also share his glory.” Romans 8:17 — Good News Bible
Although it would be wonderful, for myself, as a testimony, to claim that everything will be rosy if you believe in Jesus, that’s not happening. There is no promise of avoiding suffering so I need to put that wish aside and live with the pain AND be committed to staying faithful.
7/4/2024 — Colossians 3:23
“Whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly as though you were working for your real master and not merely for humans.” Colossians 3:23 — God’s Word
Don’t forget Who I’m living for. It’s true I’m here to serve people and to enjoy my gift of a life but most important is that my efforts and my passion are for God alone.
7/3/2024 — Psalm 139:14
“I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord!” Psalms 139:14 — The Passion Translation
I’ve considered my own complexity with its complexes and phobias and issues as a hindrance. Instead maybe the very complexity is to be enjoyed…. God didn’t make me a one sided person, He gave me a mind, emotions, body and a heart. He gave me a spirit for Him!
7/2/2024 — 1 Corinthians 12:6
“The same God distributes different kinds of miracles that accomplish different results through each believer’s gift and ministry as he energizes and activates them.” 1 Corinthians 12:6 — The Passion Translation
How is it I can have lived 69 years yet still don’t know what my gifts are? If I describe myself, I’m creative, detailed, dependable, compassionate, I enjoy teaching. How is God using these gifts He’s given me?
7/1/2024 — James 4:14
“You do not even know what tomorrow will bring. Your life is like the morning mist over a lake that is there for a short time and then gone.” James 4:14 — First Nations Version
Life changes in a moment. I think I am healthy but find out I’m not. I think life is on a safe path and suddenly we are completely derailed.
I have to keep repeating that ALL of it is for my good. I someday will look back and see that what we go through has been best for the greatest outcome!
6/30/2024 — Hebrews 4:9
“So we see this: God still has a place ready for his people, where they can rest. They will rest as God rested on the seventh day.” Hebrews 4:9 — Easy English Bible
We have a place to rest and a time to rest. Use the time of going to church, then being at church, then coming home as a whole cycle of rest and rejuvenation in God.
6/29/2024 — Matthew 11:28
““Come close to my side, you whose hearts are on the ground, you who are pushed down and worn out, and I will refresh you.” Matthew 11:28 — First Nations Version
I am slowing down, I get tired more easily and I’m less motivated than I used to be. It may not all be a bad thing and I am thankful that God has allowed us older people to have time to sit back. Use the time to reflect on His blessings.
6/28/2024 — Galatians 1:10
“Am I now trying to get people to think well of me? Or do I want God to think well of me? Am I trying to please people? If I were, I would not be serving Christ.” Galatians 1:10 — New International Revised Version
I am a human BEing not a human DOing. Stop being so interested in doing things and think about what I am…. God’s child and put here to channel His love for others.
6/27/2024 — Psalm 62:5
“I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the one I love, waiting as long as it takes for him to rescue me. Only God is my Savior, and he will not fail me.” Psalms 62:5 — The Passion Translation
Why is it so hard to just sit quietly before God? Not reading, not drawing, of course with the TV off and my phone down? Rest in God. Pause in His presence. It is a command from Him! Not a suggestion!
6/26/2024 — Genesis 1:26
“Then God said, “Let us make human beings so that they are like us. Let them rule over the fish in the seas and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.”” Genesis 1:26 — New International Revised Version
God gave us work to do and He knows what is just enough. If I am feeling overwhelmed then it means I’ve gone beyond the work God’s set for me and added to my own workload to satisfy someone (likely myself) other than God.
6/25/2024 — Psalms 23:2-3
“You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water, and you refresh my life. You are true to your name, and you lead me along the right paths.” Psalms 23:2-3 — Contemporary English Version
There is a time to work hard and there is a time to rest and there is no need to feel guilty about sitting back and contemplating my place in God’s world.
6/24/2024 — 1 Corinthians 4:15
“For even if you were to have ten thousand teachers [to guide you] in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers [who led you to Christ and assumed responsibility for you], for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the good news [of salvation].” 1 Corinthians 4:15 — Amplified Bible
This verse tugs my heart…. I nurtured my family to love and serve God but they are on their own timeline with Christ…. I feel that their ears are no longer open to me and I can only teach them by example and ask God to send one of His ten thousand teachers to them…
6/23/2024 — 2 Corinthians 4:17
“For the troubles we now face are small compared to what is coming and do not last for long. Instead, they are getting us ready for the great and shining beauty of the world to come, a beauty beyond comparison that will never fade away. So we set our minds not on the things we can see but on the things we cannot see.” 2 Corinthians 4:17 — First Nations Version
I grit my teeth when I think these troubles now are considered small. They are not small when going through them! I also waver between being comforted with the promise of eternity and the desire for relief in THIS life. Trusting God is a daily decision…
6/22/2024 — Psalm 91:2
“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.” Psalms 91:2 — New Living Translation
I have been so despairing (when our first daughter died) that I didn’t want to go to God, I didn’t want to trust Him. But where else was there to go? He has blessed me a thousand times and more since that time. He will bless me again even if I’m hurting now.
6/21/2024 — Psalm 22:2
“My God! I call aloud to you for help every day, all day and all night! But you do not answer my prayers, so I cannot sleep.” Psalms 22:2 — Easy English Bible
I know this feeling. Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night and though I chide myself about worrying, there is no other word for it…. At those hours I use the time to count my blessings and repeat over and over “God is in control.”
6/20/2024 — Isaiah 43:19
“Look! Now I will do something that is new! It is already beginning to happen. Surely, you can recognize it. Yes, I will make a road through the desert. I will make streams in the wilderness.” Isaiah 43:19 — Easy English Bible
This verse gives me such hope. God is working for me, for us. He has already started and what seems hard and desolate now will become flourishing and joyful in the future.
6/19/2024 — Romans 6:23
“Following the path of broken ways only earns us death, but Creator’s free gift to us is the life of the world to come that never fades away, full of beauty and harmony. This free gift is ours in the Chosen One, who is our Honored Chief Creator Sets Free (Jesus). — Romans 6:23 — First Nations Version
We all have sinned and keep in sinning. There are a few things that are painful and not really my fault. That is suffering. Is my pain because of my sin or my suffering? In sin, ask forgiveness, in suffering, join in Jesus’ suffering and take comfort.
6/18/2024 — Hebrews 4:7
“So God chose another time for people to go to his place of rest. He called it ‘Today’. A long time after Moses, David spoke God's message. As we have already seen, he said: ‘You must listen when you hear God speak today. Do not refuse to obey him.’” Hebrews 4:7 — Easy English Bible
If I want a place to escape and rest, God says go to Today. Today is the time to act. Today is the time to rest. Today is the day to meet with God.
6/17/2024 — Ephesians 2:6-7
“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6-7 — New Living Translation
God isn’t going to let my story end in sadness. If I’m not recognizing His goodness yet it’s because my story isn’t finished. God wants me to be joyful as much as I do because He loves me, but also because He wants others to read about what He’s done in my life.
6/16/2024 — John 14:11
“Have faith in me when I say that the Father is one with me and that I am one with the Father. Or else have faith in me simply because of the things I do.” John 14:11 — Contemporary English Version
It is so human to not be able to believe. Believe in God? I can’t see Him. Believe in Jesus? That seems so long ago. Believe in Jesus’ works? Those are continuing through generations of believers and through the stories of their faith even today. I can believe through their works that are empowered by Jesus.
6/15/2024 — 1 Samuel 7:12
“Then Samuel got a big stone. He set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer. He said, “The Lord has helped us every step of the way.”” 1 Samuel 7:12 — New International Revised Version
What is my Ebenezer Stone… the point where God helped me? The stone I recognized was over 20 years ago and there are so many stones since then I unfortunately don’t even count them. Remembering God is the purpose of the Ebenezer Stone…. Lay some in my heart today.
6/14/2024 — First Nations Version
“There were so many people coming and going all around them that they did not even have time to eat. So Creator Sets Free (Jesus) said to them, “Come with me, and we will find a quiet place in the wilderness to rest for a while.”” Mark 6:31 — First Nations Version
Jesus knew the importance of getting away to relax and revive. The best way to hear God’s voice is to spend time alone without distractions (and hopefully in nature!)
6/13/2024 — Deuteronomy 30:19
““Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19 — New Living Translation
The choice that I make is so important because with each opportunity to turn one way or the other, it gets easier to choose the road I’ve gone before…. Bad habits become engraved…. Take the time to choose well. Choose life and God and patience. These choices too will be engraved on my heart.
6/12/2024 — Psalms 139:16
“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalms 139:16 — New Living Translation
God knew that this season of my life was going to come. He has prepared me for it by nudging me towards my faith, he has provided me with peace. I hold fast to God and what is in my future. I believe that all will be good.
6/11/2024 — 1 John 3:20
“Whenever our conscience condemns us, we will be reassured that God is greater than our conscience and knows everything.” 1 John 3:20 — God’s Word
I sometimes feel like such a worthless Christian. I’m not good at witnessing, I’m not even good at fellowshipping with others at church. As I get older my life narrows and I’m rather relieved! And then I feel guilty. But God knows me more than I know myself…
6/10/2024 — Psalm 43:5
“Why are you discouraged, my soul? Why are you so restless? Put your hope in God, because I will still praise him. He is my savior and my God.” Psalms 43:5 — God’s Word
I take comfort in the Psalms with all of David’s switching from despair and praise again and again. He was honest with his emotions and He was called “one after God’s heart.” My emotions change daily but God always understands.
6/9/2024 — Psalm 46:1
“God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is always there to help us in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1 — New International Revised Version
It is wrong to think that being a Christian protects us from problems or heartbreaks. Those are there… instead, God promises to supply what we need, friends, medication, counseling, rest and to be there with us. He will see me through.
6/8/2024 — Deuteronomy 31:8
“The Lord is the one who is going ahead of you. He will be with you. He won’t abandon you or leave you. So don’t be afraid or terrified.”” Deuteronomy 31:8 — God’s Word
I do not know what our future is. I guess I can only make sure that my future includes God and with that will come peace, help, comfort, guidance and even joy. This is MY life to walk and I choose to walk it with God.
6/7/2024 — Acts 2:44
“All the believers kept meeting together, and they shared everything with each other.” Acts 2:44 — God’s Word
I am meeting with a friend today who is upset and sad and lonely. I can only give her a place to share her feelings but I have no answers for her. We each share as much as we can and believe God has brought us together.
7/6/2024 — Romans 12:2
“Do not permit the ways of this world to mold and shape you. Instead, let Creator change you from the inside out, in the way a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. He will do this by giving you a new way of thinking, seeing, and walking. Then you will know for sure what the Great Spirit wants for you, things that are good, that make the heart glad, and that help you to walk the path of becoming a mature and true human being.” Romans 12:2 — First Nations Version
God wants me to draw to draw closer to Him. I want to draw closer to Him! Stop doing the same things thinking they will shift my thinking. Change my way of prayer, the way I read my Bible. Find a new time or place. Start a different habit.
6/5/2024 — John 15:15
“Servants don't know what their master is doing, and so I don't speak to you as my servants. I speak to you as my friends, and I have told you everything my Father has told me.” John 15:15 — Contemporary English Version
God has named me and His names are very different from what Satan calls me. I am a child of God, a chosen one, a witness, a messenger, a temple, a masterpiece, free, brand new, and a friend.
6/4/2024 — 1 John 2:6
“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:6 — New International Version
Abiding in Jesus does not mean going to church on Sunday and singing praise songs. It means living like Jesus…. How? By prayer? By deeds? By love?
6/3/2024 — Luke 10:20
All the same, the great triumph is not in your authority over evil, but in God’s authority over you and presence with you. Not what you do for God but what God does for you—that’s the agenda for rejoicing.”” Luke 10:20 — Message Bible
If I am calm in the face of storms it is not because I have overcome Satan’s temptation to panic, it is only because God is with me and I seek His comfort.
6/2/2024 — Romans 8:31
“So, because of all the things that God does for us, we can say this: If God is working on our behalf, nobody can really do anything against us.” Romans 8:31 — Easy English Bible
I keep repeating to myself that no matter what is going on in my life, God thinks I am wonderful. I have to turn off the voices in my head that say I can’t, I’m not, I never will be. God says I’m all He wants me to be.
6/1/2024 — Romans 8:38-39
“I am sure that nothing can separate us from God's love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!” Romans 8:38-39 — Contemporary English Version
God can and will use any situation, as much time as it takes, in any place, to bring us closer to Him. He can and will work miracles.
5/31/2024 — Luke 22:33
““But Lord,” Peter replied, “I am ready to stand with you to the very end, even if it means prison or death!”” Luke 22:33 — The Passion Translation
God takes us to places we never expected to go, through trials that I thought I could avoid if I tried to be a good Christian. No matter where I am though, I can still be used by God and He is still there in the hard places.
5/30/2024 — John 10:28
“My gift to them is the life of the world to come, full of beauty and harmony, and they will never fade away or come to a bad end.” John 10:28 — First Nations Version
God has me and He has my loved ones. My situation, my state of mind will not change that. I have read that an Alzheimer suffer was afraid she would someday forget God, but she realized that even if so, God will not forget her.
5/29/2024 — 2 Corinthians 12:9
“But he told me: “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I will brag even more about my weaknesses in order that Christ’s power will live in me.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
It is not what I plan my life to be or want my life to be. It is not what I’ve made of my life (or my failure to do so). It is only what God has chosen to use my life for and my willingness to accept the role.
5/28/2024 — Psalm 13:5-6
“But I trust your mercy. My heart finds joy in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord because he has been good to me.” Psalms 13:5-6 — God’s Word
Sing, smile, rejoice, laugh, be happy, celebrate, shine.
These are the ways I praise God. These are the ways I witness to the world. With God’s help, these are the ways I choose to live.
5/27/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:8-9
“Brothers and sisters, you need to know about the severe trials we experienced while we were in western Turkey. All of the hardships we passed through crushed us beyond our ability to endure, and we were so completely overwhelmed that we were about to give up entirely. It felt like we had a death sentence written upon our hearts, and we still feel it to this day. It has taught us to lose all faith in ourselves and to place all of our trust in the God who raises the dead.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9 — The Passion Translation
I am in God’s classroom of life to learn to turn to Him and trust Him. He Does give us more than we can handle until we choose to give our problems to Him.
5/26/2024 — 1 Kings 19:5
“Then he lay down under the tree and he slept. Suddenly, an angel came and touched him. The angel said, ‘Get up and eat something.’” 1 Kings 19:5 — Easy English Bible
I have never thought of my husband as an angel but times when I’m sick or down in the dumps and end up napping, he often urges me to eat something. My big white haired angel.
5/25/2024 — Psalms 107:13
“So they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and God saved them from their desperate circumstances.” Psalms 107:13 — Common English Bible
This must be true for me because on the one hand I think I should be anxious and depressed, I actually spend more time being content and happy. I so want the circumstances to change for the better but I am managing. Is this the peace that God promises?
5/24/2024 — Proverbs 11:14
“Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.” Proverbs 11:14 — Message Bible
I am stuck knowing that the sharing of the heart is a path towards relief and freedom from worry, while struggling in solitude puts me at a risk. In a way, no matter what we go through, sickness, shame, challenge, we go alone. In another way, there is nothing someone hasn’t experienced before. I am grateful I am forced to lean on God in past months, and not people.
5/23/2024 — Numbers 11:14
“I can’t take care of all these people by myself. This is too much work for me!” Numbers 11:14 — God’s Word
I sometimes feel I’m facing things alone but actually there are family members who understand, there are friends that don’t need to understand who don’t even have the full story yet they uplift me… and they don’t even know it! God holds the whole world in His hands…. Not me!
5/22/2024 — Psalms 23:3
“That’s where he restores and revives my life. He opens before me the right path and leads me along in his footsteps of righteousness so that I can bring honor to his name.” Psalms 23:3 — The Passion Translation
I go in and out of feeling down and in a dark place but God sends me lights of cheer through friends and creative activities. I get a sunburst of light in attending church and singing praises with others in God’s family. Stay in God’s light. In Him I am restored.
5/21/2024 — Romans 13:4
“The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.” Romans 13:4 — New Living Translation
We are all under the authority of the government and it is there to protect us and guide us. No matter that I may not be happy with the decisions made, the government is still a servant of God and there are probably moral dilemmas for each person in the system…
5/20/2024 — Luke 22:42
“If you want, my Father, you can take this bitter road of pain and sorrow away from me, but even so I want to walk your path, not my own. Luke 22:42 — First Nations Version
I have prayed this prayer. I have asked to keep me from having to follow a path of sorrow. I have even thought that God would perform a miracle and my will would prevail! He didn’t and my path follows the one He set out. God sent an angel to strengthen Jesus and He sends me comfort and strength to me too.
5/19/2024 — Numbers 13:30
“Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”” Numbers 13:30 — New King James Version
Don’t be a pessimist and think “I can’t do such and such.” If God has called me to do something, to experience something, then He has equipped me to handle it. He never calls and leaves us stranded. He provides the means, the wisdom and the strength.
5/18/2024 — 1 Corinthians 10:33
“This is the manner in which I also walk. For I am not looking out only for my own good, but also for the good of others. I do this so they too may be set free and made whole.” 1 Corinthians 10:33 — First Nations Version
Put others first. Especially when I am hurting, it is tempting to give priority to myself but you never know what someone else is going through. Look out for the good of others and God will send someone to look out for me.
5/17/2024 — 1 Samuel 16:17
““All right,” Saul answered. “Find me someone who is good at playing the harp and bring him here.”” 1 Samuel 16:17 — Contemporary English Version
I doubt that David ever thought he would be called to use his love of music to help the king but that’s what happened.
I don’t know when I will be called to help someone but I can better myself (practice!) so that I’ll have some ability when it’s needed.
5/16/2024 — 2 Samuel 9:3
“The king asked, “Isn’t there anyone still alive from the royal house of Saul? God has been very kind to me. I would like to be kind to that person in the same way.” 2 Samuel 9:3 - New International Revised Version
No matter what trouble I am in, don’t forget to show kindness to others. Think of someone else to get my mind off my own troubles… God is good to me. Pass it on.
5/15/2024 — Hebrews 12:2
“As we run, we must always look towards Jesus. He is the one who trusted God completely. Our faith starts with him, and he will help us to trust God all the way to the end…. Hebrews 12:2 — Easy English Bible
My life has its ups and downs but God has prepared me for each moment. He called me to faith, He supplies me with comfort. He will cheer me on and possibly carry me at the end.
5/14/2024 — Romans 12:5
“Dance with the ones who dance for joy, and shed tears with the ones whose hearts have fallen to the ground.” Romans 12:5 — First Nations Version
Laughing and tears seem to come together. With one you appreciate the emotions of the other even more. Our joy and sadness are reflected in others.
5/13/2024 — Luke 15:20
“So he got up and went to his father. “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him. He was filled with tender love for his son. He ran to him. He threw his arms around him and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 — New International Revised Version
God waits for us to return to Him. I wait for my loved ones to understand God’s love for them. Wait and believe.
5/12/2024 — Numbers 14:28
“So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:” Numbers 14:28 — New International Version
We can be sure of some things. God lives and God hears us. He also holds us, as adults, to be responsible for our complaints and mistakes.
5/11/2024 — Ezekiel 6:9
“Those who escape will remember me among the nations where they are exiles. They will remember how my heart was crushed by their promiscuous ways when they turned their hearts away from me and by their wandering eyes that lusted after idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil things they did and all their detestable practices.” Ezekiel 6:9 — The Passion Translation
God, our Father and Creator, is perfect, yet look at how imperfect we are and how much sadness we have caused Him. Still, He lets us choose our crooked paths.
5/10/2024 — Romans 14:12
“So then, each of us must give an answer to the Great Spirit for how we have walked on this earth.” Romans 14:12 — First Nations Version
I am responsible for myself on this day. I am responsible for my attitude and for my relationship with God and others. I am not responsible, nor do I have to feel guilty, for other people’s choices or actions. We each kneel before God alone.
5/9/2024 — Philippians 3:13
“Brothers and sisters, I myself don’t think I’ve reached it, but I do this one thing: I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me.” Philippians 3:13 — Common English Bible
Purposefully forgetting is so hard to do. The more I try, the more I think about the very thing. I think I have to ask for forgiveness, thank God and then get involved with something else. Mindless tasks and hobbies may not be wasted time at all… God gives me these diversions.
5/8/2024 — Romans 8:29
“We know this because God knew them in advance, and he decided in advance that they would be conformed to the image of his Son. That way his Son would be the first of many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:29 — Common English Bible
God knows. He has each one of us in His mind, He knows each of our stories. I believe this for myself and I believe this for my prodigal. God is working in all our lives.
5/7/2024 — Matthew 8:26
“But Jesus replied, “Why are you so afraid? You surely don't have much faith.” Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to calm down. And everything was calm.” Matthew 8:26 — Contemporary English Version
I am sad that this is probably what God is saying to me. All my praise and worship and prayers and witnessing, yet here I struggle. I believe all the promises for myself but I don’t know how to place them over my loved ones.
5/6/2024 — Matthew 26:42
“Then he left them for a second time to pray in solitude. He said to God, “My Father, if there is not a way that you can deliver me from this suffering, then your will must be done.”” Matthew 26:42 — The Passion Translation
Jesus did not want to go through His sufferings. He prayed for God to change things yet He did not turn His back on God.
I have prayed too and wondered why God doesn’t change His plan (just for me.) As Jesus is my example I will just go forward.
5/5/2024 — Psalms 27:13-14
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” Psalms 27:13-14 — New King James Version
Faith over feelings.
I have to keep believing that I will see good. That God will make something wonderful and that I’ll look back and see that this time was necessary. I certainly don’t feel that positive…
5/4/2023 — 1 John 3:1
“See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God; and in fact we are. For this reason the world does not know us: because it did not know Him.” 1 John 3:1 — New American Standard Bible
Run to the Father in fear and in pain and in confusion. Stretch out your hands so that you can hang on even tighter. Feel yourself being carried in safety.
5/3/2024 — Psalms 34:17-18
”When his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles. The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope.“ Psalms 34:17-18 — Contemporary English Version
Peace isn’t a feeling. It is a knowing. I feel sad and let down and a failure but I know God loves me, that He is near me and that He is working for my good and the good of my family. I may not feel any of that but I believe it to be true.
5/2/2024 — Psalms 32:1-2
”Blessed is the person whose disobedience is forgiven and whose sin is pardoned. Blessed is the person whom the Lord no longer accuses of sin and who has no deceitful thoughts.“ Psalms 32:1-2 — God’s Word
What a relief to know that God sees us with forgiveness in His eyes. No matter our past, God welcomes us. I may wish that I’d done things differently but to God, I already have.
5/1/2024 — Philippians 2:13
”for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure.“ Philippians 2:13 — New American Standard Bible
I read this verse for myself… I have the desire to do God’s will, but I need His power to be able to do it. I also read this verse for my loved ones…. I cling to the promise that God is working in them to desire to do God’s will.
4/30/2024 — Philippians 1:9-11
”I pray that your love will keep on growing because of your knowledge and insight. That way you will be able to determine what is best and be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. Jesus Christ will fill your lives with everything that God’s approval produces. Your lives will then bring glory and praise to God.“ Philippians 1:9-11 — God’s Word
Positive thinking may change me. Positive prayer will change the situation. Intercede daily for those I love.
4/29/2024 — Philippians 1:5
”I’m glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.“ Philippians 1:5 — Common English Bible
This is a memory that Paul chooses to remember from a time in his life filled with dark times. We too can choose to lighten our lives with bright memories of love and friendship and happiness. Keep turning on the bright lights. Choose to light another even in the darkness.
4/28/2024 — Philippians 1:3
”I thank my God for you every time I think of you;” Philippians 1:3 — Good News Bible
There are people who make me step away or shake my head or just sigh. But there are more people that I am grateful for, people I pray for asking for God’s blessings and protection on them.
4/27/2024 — 1 Peter 2:17
”Recognize the value of every person and continually show love to every believer. Live your lives with great reverence and in holy awe of God. Honor your rulers.“ 1 Peter 2:17 — The Passion Translation
I think about my political stance and wonder if I reflect respect? I try not to grumble but I’m not always happy but I try to keep my opinions to myself. God has His reasons for enabling world leaders so I’ll honor His choices…
4/26/2024 — Proverbs 11:17
”Those who are kind benefit themselves. But mean people bring ruin on themselves.“ Proverbs 11:17 — New International Revised Version
In the matter of forgiveness, I have never been treated cruelly nor have I lashed back by being cruel. I HAVE been criticized and I have to think about my response to that…. I recall the other person’s similar actions… at the very least I’ll walk away in silence and manipulation. The Bible says I’m actually hurting myself and the proper response is prayer.
4/25/2024 — Matthew 5:7
”Creator’s blessing rests on the ones who are merciful and kind to others. Their kindness will find its way back to them—full circle.“ Matthew 5:7 — First Nations Version
Being kind, also being forgiving, shouldn’t be that hard. I have been forgiven for much and the kindness of God and others to me is endless. I want to show the same love to others even with difficult people. Choose forgiveness and expressions of love everyday.
4/24/2024 — Job 34:32
”Have you asked God to show you your faults, and have you agreed to stop doing evil?“ Job 34:32 — Good News Bible
We all have blind spots about ourselves. I probably do not have an accurate idea of how I relate to others…. (I think I’m friendly, I’m maybe prideful) of my relationship with God, (I try to draw near to God but He knows I’m not bold in my faith). Ask God to show me where He expects growth… be obedient to Him and leave it to God.
4/23/2023 — 1 Corinthians 3:18
”Don’t fool yourself. Don’t think that you can be wise merely by being relevant. Be God’s fool—that’s the path to true wisdom. 1 Corinthians 3:18 — Message Bible
Does it really benefit anyone, myself included, if I’m up on the latest world news? Is it inspiring me to go out and change things or am I just an ambulance chaser? How much better to search out God’s wisdom for my eternity than to ogle at the daily news.
4/22/2024 — Proverbs 10:22
”If the Lord blesses you, you are really rich. Hard work will not make you any richer.“ Proverbs 10:22 — Easy English Bible
In all honesty I have a bit of trouble believing/living this. Haven’t we always gone by the philosophy that hard work produces results? I understand that God is the source of all money, all work, and even that toiling doesn’t equal riches and happiness. Seek God’s blessings not money.
4/21/2024 — Proverbs 3:9
”Show that you respect the Lord in the way that you use your money. Offer the first part of the harvest from your farm to him.“ Proverbs 3:9 — Easy English Bible
I say that I trust God with my salvation and with my eternity. If that is so, what does my tithing say about my trust? Do I trust God with my finances? I DO tithe because I am grateful, because I have given God my future… but am I still worrying about how much I’ve saved for a rainy day?
4/20/2024 — Proverbs 11:4
”A thick bankroll is no help when life falls apart, but a principled life can stand up to the worst.“ Proverbs 11:4 — Message Bible
I believe this whole heartedly. Having riches doesn’t save me from problems nor are the y even going ensure happiness. Being able to run to God and stay within His comfort and protection is my refuge when troubles come my way.
4/19/2024 — Hebrews 13:5
”Don’t be obsessed with money but live content with what you have, for you always have God’s presence. For hasn’t he promised you, “I will never leave you, never! And I will not loosen my grip on your life!”“ Hebrews 13:5 — The Passion Translation
My worries always seem to be about my family. I know God loves ME and will give ME what I need and comfort ME with His presence, but what about my family? How do I apply God’s promises to me to what I wish for my family?
4/18/2024 — 1 Corinthians 1:4
”I never stop thanking my God for treating you with undeserved grace by giving you Christ Jesus,“ 1 Corinthians 1:4 — Contemporary English Version
Thank You God, for the love you have given to my family, for preparing us for this time in our lives with loving, cheerful, faithful people, with a knowledge of You and Your refuge. Please continue to be merciful and spread your protective wings over us all.
4/17/2024 — Romans 12:3
”“Share your possessions with the ones in need, and you will have money pouches that never wear out, filled with possessions from the spirit-world above.“ — Romans 12:3 — First Nations Version
I have so much more than I need, so many blessings. Why is it I still grasp at things that I claim are my favorites…. Being generous is the way to deposit riches in eternity.
4/16/2024 — James 1:3-4
”For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.“ James 1:3-4 — New Living Translation
So life is not a smooth road and the hard parts are there for me to learn more and more how to live by faith. God is changing me day by day, getting me ready for more of His work and for eternity.
4/15/2024 — Romans 12:1
Do not let evil take over in your heart, but overcome evil with good. — Romans 12:1 — First Nations Version
I don’t think I’d ever be tempted to commit evil but I can see how evil could overtake my heart with doubting and depression and fears. Those too are a type of evil against the joy God has created for me.
4/14/2024 — 1 Corinthians 12:5
”There are different ways of serving, and yet the same Lord is served.“ 1 Corinthians 12:5 — God’s Word
God has given me gifts of talent. Bilingual talents, sewing talents… I’m developing a drawing talent. But how do I use these talents for others? I teach some, I translate for others…. Is it enough? Am I selfish with my talents? Are there hidden talents I haven’t recognized?
4/13/2024 — Proverbs 18:13
”Listen before you speak, for to speak before you’ve heard the facts will bring humiliation.“ — Proverbs 18:13 — The Passion Translation
Strive to be a listener rather than someone spouting off advice. I’ve never been in the other person’s exact situation or had the same past experiences. And if the other person doesn’t ask for my opinion or want to talk? Pray for them.
4/12/2024 — Philippians 4:6
”Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;“ Philippians 4:6 — New King James Version
If I’m worrying about something then it’s a sure sign I’m not trusting God! They go hand in hand. Let God know my concern and then leave it. It’s not being irresponsible to walk away from a problem as long as I am walking with God.
4/11/2024 — 1 Peter 4:12-13
”Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner.“ 1 Peter 4:12-13 — Message Bible
Though I have been knocked flat by disappointment and surprised (no, shocked) by how things have come about, God is never surprised, never disappointed. He has known and planned for this turn in my life and my purpose is to stand strong, not to throw blame, and know that I, all of us, are being prepared for God’s glory.
4/10/2024 — Galatians 5:1
”Christ has made us free so that we can be really free! So be strong and do not turn back. Do not let yourselves become slaves to the Jewish rules again.“ Galatians 5:1 — Easy English Bible
I’m not sure what I’m being set free from…. From my sin, from my shame, from past mistakes. There are things I beat myself over the head with…. Things that can’t be changed and that I feel responsible for secrets that I’d rather not explain.
God tells me to live beyond the past because He has freed me…. Choose freedom.
4/9/2024 — Proverbs 3:27
”Whenever you possibly can, do good to those who need it.“ Proverbs 3:27 — Good News Bible
This is a basic in life. Help each other. The reason we are here is to serve others as God’s hands and feet.
4/8/2024 — Matthew 14:31
”At once, Jesus reached out his hand. He helped Peter up and said, “You surely don't have much faith. Why do you doubt?”“ Matthew 14:31 — Contemporary English Version
Jesus must think this about me all the time. I step out in faith and then start complaining or crying or screaming. Why can’t I just trust!? Because disappointment comes too often… because I see disaster around me and think why should it be any different for me… I keep having to snap my fingers in front of my face and say, “Look at all the blessings He keeps giving you!!!”
4/7/2024 — Matthew 24:14
”When the good news about the kingdom has been preached all over the world and told to all nations, the end will come.“ Matthew 24:14 — Contemporary English Version
God gets the glory when I worship Him, when I love others, when I tell someone about Him, when I don’t give up. We are not trying to make this world a better place, we are trying to populate God’s eternity.
4/6/2024 — Matthew 19:26
”Jesus looked straight at them and answered, “This is impossible for human beings, but for God everything is possible.”“ Matthew 19:26 — Good News Bible
My faith isn’t threatened by other people or even Satan. Its biggest enemy is myself! I am the one who doubts and hedges and makes excuses. God can do anything.
4/5/2024 — Matthew 28:20
”Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. “And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”“ Matthew 28:20 — God’s Word
I take such great comfort in the second part of this passage yet I conveniently pass over the first part. Who am I teaching? Who has been brought to Christ?
4/4/2024 — Matthew 16:18
And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out.“ Matthew 16:18 — Message Bible
I am part of God’s family, He calls it His church, and I have responsibilities but mostly I have love and people to love. God uses His family to teach me about relationships and challenges.
4/3/2024 — Romans 11:36
”It is God who made all things. He also causes all things to continue. And all things are there to show how great he is. We praise him! He is great for ever! Amen. This is true!“ Romans 11:36 — Easy English Bible
Giving glory to God. That is my purpose. Not to be a great wife or an inspiring mother, or a friendly neighbor or a great English teacher or an effective Christian. Giving glory to God includes being a wife and mother and neighbor and teacher and Christian. Just trying is my way of glorifying.
4/2/2024 — Ephesians 4:1
”Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.“ Ephesians 4:1 — New Living Translation
Worrying, feeling sorry for myself, seeing doom. These are not what God has called me for. He wants me to shine with hope and positivity and a conviction that all will be good.
Smile! (That was my word for the year… remember?) Exude hope!
4/1/2014 — Romans 8:17
”If we are his children, we are also God’s heirs. If we share in Christ’s suffering in order to share his glory, we are heirs together with him.“ Romans 8:17 — God’s Word
Though I’m not happy about, it there are sufferings that I must live though. I try to keep my eyes and hope on eternity and accepting the trials that God allows. Stay committed to God’s plan.
3/31/2024 — Romans 8:11
”The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.“ Romans 8:11 — New Living Translation
Happy Easter! Jesus has risen! There is always hope for the believer. No matter what comes my way, at the end of the tunnel is an eternal world opening before me.
3/30/2024 — Proverbs 3:9
”Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first and best part of all your income.“ Proverbs 3:9 — God’s Word
How does God reveal where and how much He wants me to give? First of all I need to be in tune with what God is saying to me…. How can I give to His glory? It isn’t always to the church though that is the easiest answer.
Giving has been a challenge since retirement…. My income is minimal…. But God blesses me with the means to live comfortably…
3/29/2024 — Mark 11:24
”For this reason I tell you: when you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will be given whatever you ask for.“ Mark 11:24 — Good News Bible
Faith isn’t just believing God can do something, it is thanking Him in advance for doing it. I have thanked God for something I BELIEVED He had promised and when it didn’t come through have been able to say, “I made a mistake in thinking this was God’s will.”
It is still an act of faith to return to Him and thank Him for His future blessings.
3/28/2024 — Romans 4:17
When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. Romans 4:17 — Message Bible
Don’t tell it like it is, tell it like it could be.
Live like you know God wants it to be, plans it to be. Telling like it is doesn’t raise anyone’s eyes to the possibilities. Telling it like it could be (will be!?) sets a goal and births a hope.
3/27/2024 — Hebrews 11:27
”It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.“ Hebrews 11:27 — New Living Translation
Maturity is living by your commitments, not by your feelings. I may not feel like reading the Bible or being forgiving, or throwing aside my fretfulness but we can’t live by feelings which change with situations and health. I’m committed to following God and I’ll do that no matter what my feelings!
3/26/2024 — Hebrews 11:7
”It was faith that made Noah hear God's warnings about things in the future that he could not see. He obeyed God and built a boat in which he and his family were saved. Hebrews 11:7 — Good News Bible
An unbeliever whom I know lives life as “it will all work out”. “I’m taking life one day at a time.” Sometimes I think this person has more faith than I who cry and worry and see darkness in the future. I acknowledge God as my guide (though I still fret), for others is it just fate?
3/25/2024 — Hebrews 11:1
”To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.“ Hebrews 11:1 — Good News Bible
“I’ll see it when I believe it.”
That is not a mistake. Humans think that unless the see something it is not true but with faith I can believe something, believe IN something, imagine it wholeheartedly and it becomes a reality. Because of my faith? Because I don’t take my eyes off the promise?
3/24/2024 — 2 Corinthians 9:6
”Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 — New Living Translation
I’m not sure if I made the correct decision…. I was asked to volunteer for something (major) but didn’t feel capable, nor eager, and honestly I was a bit resentful. I decided that if I couldn’t give my time joyfully then I’d step away from the opportunity. God says He pours out blessings on what we give, but I wasn’t willing to take on something where I was needed… my blessings may be small…
3/23/2024 — Malachi 3:10
”Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.“ Malachi 3:10 — New King James Version
I show God that I trust Him completely when I trust Him with my finances. Am I always thinking I need to save “just in case?” There’s no sin in preparing and being prudent but God has the “just in case” covered.
3/22/2024 — Acts 20:35
”By everything I did, I showed how you should work to help everyone who is weak. Remember that our Lord Jesus said, “More blessings come from giving than from receiving.”“ Acts 20:35 — Contemporary English Version
The way to be more joyful is to give more. That is a Biblical principle but I find it hard to apply in relation to my time. I get to feeling pressured to “help” more, do more, step out of my comfort zone. Isn’t it Biblical to set my boundaries as to what I want to do?
3/21/2024 — Matthew 6:28
”If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap. The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.“ Luke 6:38 — Contemporary English Version
I consider whether I’m a generous person. Probably not. I get annoyed when people ask for more from me… not money but of my time…. I give my time grudgingly and even monetarily I think if there will be “enough”. Not a pretty picture. I guess I’ve chosen how much I want from God because “as you give so shall you receive.”
Help me Lord to be more generous.
3/20/2024 — Matthew 6:21
”for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.“ Matthew 6:21 — New American Standard Version
It is possible to see what I love by looking at where I spend my time and where I spend my money.
I spend my time with my husband… thinking about my children, thinking about how I fit in God’s world. Also in sewing and drawing. I spend my money on… fabric, my pets, food, offerings. What does that say about me?
3/19/2024 — Matthew 28:6
”He is not here; he has been raised, just as he said. Come here and see the place where he was lying.“ Matthew 28:6 — Good News Bible
I know this is not really God’s meaning for me here but today we buried our kitty and I in my heart I hope that I will see again all the pets that I’ve ever loved…
3/18/2024 — Romans 6:3-5
That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.“ Romans 6:3-5 — Message Bible
I do not have to play the victim. I have willingly agreed to “suffer” for God’s purposes. God gives me light and life to enjoy a fresh new day. Set aside grief and shame and choose to live happily!
3/17/2024 — Hebrews 4:16
”Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].“ Hebrews 4:16 — Amplified Bible
I don’t need to be afraid of nothingness. I don’t need to be afraid of being ignored or cast aside or punished. God lets me crawl to Him and cry to Him. He will give me just what I need.
3/16/2024 — John 14:1
”“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me.“ John 14:1 — Amplified Bible
Such words to give strength and hope! I have believed this far in my life. Where would I go if not to Him? 3/15/2024 — John 13:7
”Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”“ John 13:7 — New Living Translation
I sometimes think that I’m not supposed to understand God’s ways. That’s what living by faith is all about. It is hard though and painful but if I make it through another day not obsessing that I don’t understand, then I picture God patting me and comforting me.
3/14/2024 — John 12:27-28
”“Even though I am torn within, and my soul is in turmoil, I will not ask the Father to rescue me from this hour of trial. For I have come to fulfill my purpose —to offer myself to God. So, Father, bring glory to your name!” Then suddenly a booming voice was heard from the sky, “I have glorified my name! And I will glorify it through you again!”“ John 12:27-28 — The Passion Translation
God has a purpose for all of us and though I never would have believed it, it seems my purpose to go through this trial. I’m not up to the task but really, what sufferer would be so confident to claim he was?
God’s only requirement is, like Jesus, I offer myself to God. He will be glorified. Right now I just feel like one of His pawns. Which I am…
3/13/2024 — Matthew 21:16
”They asked Jesus, ‘Can you hear what these children are saying?’ Jesus replied, ‘Yes, I can hear them. I am sure that you have read this in the Bible: “Lord God, babies and children praise you. You yourself have taught them to do that.” ’“ Matthew 21:16 — Easy English Bible
That is such a great image of my grand-baby screaming away PRAISES to the Lord! Of course! They’ve been in deep conversation these past 9 months!
3/12/2024 — Luke 19:37
”When Jesus started down the Mount of Olives, his large crowd of disciples were happy and praised God because of all the miracles they had seen.“ Luke 19:37 — Common English Version
It is so amazing to think of the multitude of people praising Jesus and rejoicing on this day when a week later He is crucified and His followers are distraught and disillusioned. How like myself.
One week praising because of all the good things in my life and the next doubting and cringing becauseI’m feeling betrayed.
3/11/2024 — Philippians 1:12
”My friends, I want you to know this. The trouble that has happened to me has helped more people to know about God's good news.“ Philippians 1:12 — Easy English Bible
Right now with I’m not so much interested in witnessing to a lot of people as to just a few loved ones. Though no one else may know, they will know I still cling to God no matter what. That is my testimony to a very few.
3/10/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:4
”The Great Spirit walks with us through times of trouble, giving us courage and well-being so that we can give to others the same comfort he has given to us.“ 2 Corinthians 1:4 — First Nations Version
How am I to use my pain for good? Wait around for someone to announce that they are hurting? They won’t if they are like me. There has to be a reason, God’s reason, but I can’t see it yet.
3/9/2024 — Galatians 6:2
”Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.“ Galatians 6:2 — New Living Translation
I keep coming back to not being able to share my burden. I’m willing to share someone else’s but not my own. Maybe the closest I’ll get is here and with God.
3/8/2024 — 2 Corinthians 1:8-10
”…Things could not have been worse. We ran out of strength, and our hearts fell to the ground. It was as if we had come face to face with death. It truly felt as if death were stalking us. This caused us to stop trusting in ourselves and to put our trust in the Great Spirit who brings the dead back to life—and he did! The Great Spirit snatched us from the jaws of death. Yes, we have set our hearts on the one who rescues us, that he will rescue us again and again!“ 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 — First Nations Version
Things have not been good the last few months, but with this sadness there is also so much joy in other areas of my life. How is it the two run side by side? God is with me through both. Continue to plead and grieve but also to praise and rejoice. He loves to hear from me in both emotions.
3/7/2024 — Ephesians 4:32
”Instead, help one another and be kind to each other. Forgive one another. Remember that God has forgiven you because of what Christ has done.“ Ephesians 4:32 — Easy English Bible
Forgiving is a choice I make every day and every moment. It isn’t a one time deal.
3/6/2024 — Mark 11:25
”And when you stand and pray, forgive anything you may have against anyone, so that your Father in heaven will forgive the wrongs you have done.”“ Mark 11:25 — Good News Bible
Drop my anger and my worry (and maybe a little resentment). Give it to God and go on with my life doing the best with the days that I have and in the place that I am.
Surely He will set all our paths straight.
3/5/2024 — Proverbs 27:3
”Stones are heavy, and sand weighs a lot. But letting a foolish person make you angry is a heavier load than both of them.“ Proverbs 27:3 New International Revised Version
Bitterness and resentment, holding a grudge, being unforgiving, all that just hurts the person holding the grudges. I think I’ve let go of any anger that I’ve had but it is always good to check in with God and make sure He is carrying all my troubles.
3/4/2024 — Ephesians 4:27
”Don’t give the devil any opportunity ⌞to work⌟.“ Ephesians 4:27 — God’s Word
I’m aware that my negative thoughts are planted and cultivated by the devil. These dark musings come and try to take over but I do recognize them as not from God. He would never lead me into hopelessness. Sometimes the only thing to do is say “be gone!” to Satan and get busy with some task (usually minor) that God gives me.
3/3/2024 — James 4:6
”But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”“ James 4:6 — New King James Version
There are many variations of Pride. Stubbornness, Pettiness, Obsessiveness to name a few. When I am inflexible then I’m not exhibiting humbleness. My pride is showing! “I am right! It has to be my way!” God’s grace gives me the POWER to be humble!
3/2/2024 — James 4:2
”…You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.“ James 4:2 — New Living Translation
I do wish for the confident life of others basking in their successes while I feel a failure at my most important mission in life. God says I need to pray more, but does praying change the past? I will pray that God will make beauty out of brokenness.
3/1/2024 — Romans 8:28
”In all these things, Creator is working to bring good to the ones who love him, the ones he chose according to his ancient purpose.“ Small Man to the Sacred Family in Village of Iron 8:28 —First Nations Version
My concerns are mostly for my family who don’t believe. Things always works out for good for those who LOVE God! But if they don’t love God.. where does that leave them? And then my hope is dashed for them…
Again, God speaks to ME and tells me to trust my family to Him.
2/29/2024 — Matthew 6:34
”So do not worry about tomorrow’s troubles. It is enough to trust Creator to give you the strength you need to face today.“ Gift from Creator Tells the Good Story 6:34 — First Nation’s Version
I am getting into a fret worrying about the what if’s. God gave me today. I’ve trusted Him so far, been basically blessed, felt resentments for some of the tragedies but I’ve committed myself even through tears. Just stay in today… not the past. Not the future.
2/28/2024 — James 1:5
”But if any of you lack wisdom, you should pray to God, who will give it to you; because God gives generously and graciously to all.“ James 1:5 — Good News Bible
Let’s say I have three and a half years to prepare for something…. What do I want to do in three and a half years?
Lord, You know what needs to be done and you know the possibilities and gifts of my life and my family’s. Help us to use the time wisely. Give us wisdom to prepare for careers for finances, for health issues. Let me learn to live with grace the unexpected turns and slips along the way. Keep my eyes on hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2/27/2024 — John 7:51
”He cautioned them, saying, “Does our law decide a man’s guilt before we first hear him and allow him to defend himself?”“ John 7:51 — The Passion Translation
I think I am guilty of wanting my way first and listening to the other person’s reasoning later. God says to let someone tell their story first before demanding that I’m in the right. I hope I can remember this the next time Tetsu and I get in an argument.
2/26/2024 — Matthew 7:3
”So why do you see the piece of sawdust in another believer’s eye and not notice the wooden beam in your own eye?“ Matthew 7:3 — God’s Word
I’m so guilty of this. I listen to a sermon and think “I wish so-and-so could have heard this.” “If so-and-so would take this verse to heart his/her life could be turned around.”
God talks to ME and He knows what I need to hear. He talks to others in other ways and at other times. Trust Him.
2/25/2024 — Luke 24:15
”While they were talking, Jesus approached them and began walking with them.“ Luke 24:15 — God’s Word
Does God visit us or is He always with us? I believe that He is always here with me, it’s just that I cannot see Him and my mind is too mixed up or unfocused to perceive Him. But in the Bible it does seem that Jesus visited His disciples on the road to Emmaus, in the upper room, in the form of the Holy Spirit and we do talk about angels visiting us to give guidance though I’ve never knowingly been visited…. I wonder…
2/24/2024 — Acts 1:13-14
”When they had entered the city, they went upstairs to the upper room where they were staying [indefinitely]; that is, Peter, and John and [his brother] James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew (Nathanael) and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas (Thaddaeus) the son of James. All these with one mind and one purpose were continually devoting themselves to prayer, [waiting together] along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.“ Acts 1:13-14 — Amplified Bible
There is a difference between isolation and seclusion. In fear we pull away from people, from problems and hide away. In seclusion we choose to make the time into a time of prayer and expectation. It looks the same to outsiders but it is a huge difference between stress and contentment.
2/23/2024 — Luke 18:34
”But they didn’t understand any of this. What he said was a mystery to them, and they didn’t know what he meant.“ Luke 18:34 — God’s Word
I study and pray and understand in some ways but so often when my expectations are shattered I get lost in the tangle of emotion. I still don’t understand why things have turned out the way they have…. I don’t think I’m supposed to understand.
2/22/2024 — 2 Corinthians 4:18
”We don’t look for things that can be seen but for things that can’t be seen. Things that can be seen are only temporary. But things that can’t be seen last forever.“ 2 Corinthians 4:18 — God’s Word
I need hope. My loved ones need hope. We all need hope and my eyes are on the hope and goodness of God. I’m afraid my loved ones don’t always place their hope there but I pray in the gap.
At the same time as I hope, I feel sad that eternal goodness is so far away…. Sometimes even the promise of spending eternity with Jesus takes more patience than I can muster.
2/21/2024 — James 2:13
”God will not forgive anyone who has not forgiven other people. But God is kind! He judges us, but even more than that, he forgives us!“ James 2:13 — Easy English Bible
One rule that sticks in my head is that even if I am correct about a situation, if I insist and a rude about dealing with it, then I am in the wrong. Love and forgiveness are the defaults.
2/20/2024 — Ephesians 4:32
”Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.“ Ephesians 4:32 — New International Revised Version
Is there someone I need to forgive? There are a couple relationships that have soured but I have comfortably left those to God. I guess I have more of a problem about taking offense at small things (usually done or said by my husband). It’s the small things that get overlooked where forgiveness is concerned!
2/19/2024 — Psalms 141:3
”God, give me grace to guard my lips from speaking what is wrong.“
Psalms 141:3 — The Passion Translation
I want to watch the temptation to gossip, and speak negatively (most times not out loud). If I want my speech to reflect my heart then I’d better be filled with faith filled thoughts.
2/18/2024 — Psalms 103:10
”He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.“ Psalms 103:10 — New Living Translation
I dislike the word “deserve”. Maybe I don’t like it just because I know that eternity’s view of what I deserve is so harsh. I also don’t like the usage of the word when people use it as an excuse for a bit of extravagance. “You deserve it. You worked so hard.” No we deserve nothing but condemnation and that is scary!
2/17/2024 — James 3:5
”…A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.“ James 3:5 — Message Bible
Be careful about my words, verbal and non-verbal. They have the power to hurt people or uplift them. My own words can keep me in a hopeful frame of mind or set me to doubting.
2/16/2024 — James 5:8
”So you also, keep your hopes high and be patient, for the presence of the Lord is drawing closer.“ James (Jacob) 5:8 — The Passion Translation
My friend sent me the timely reminder, IGBOK, It’s Gonna Be OK. I am counting on it because human perception of the future doesn’t seem very bright. Practicing patience is going to bring me closer to God.
2/15/2024 — James 5:11
”We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.“ James 5:11 — New Living Translation
It is a shame that we get ourselves into situations where we have to endure the consequences of our sins but even our mistakes God uses to mold us into whom He wants us to be. I take great comfort in knowing that God will be kind no matter what the sin.
2/14/2024 — James 2:8
”You will do all right, if you obey the most important law in the Scriptures. It is the law that commands us to love others as much as we love ourselves. But if you treat some people better than others, you have done wrong, and the Scriptures teach that you have sinned.“
James 2:8-9 — Contemporary English Version
Sometimes the problem is knowing how to love yourself.
2/13/2024 — Psalms 139:23-24
”Examine me, God, and know my heart; test me, and know my thoughts. See if there is in me any hurtful way, and lead me along the eternal way.“ — Psalm 139:23-24
I don’t see myself as God sees me nor do I understand the situation as God sees it. I react and plunder along. I feel sorry for myself and doubt there is goodness near me. God knows this and reveals to me the error of my thinking. He will continue to raise my spirits and show me how to live trusting Him completely.
2/12/2024 — Philippians 2:4
”None of you should look out just for your own good. Each of you should also look out for the good of others.“ Philippians 2:4 — New International Revised Version
Just by being human means I am self centered. It is a real struggle to put the other person first or try to align my opinion against another’s. And when I fail, I need to ask for forgiveness and also try to see the person as Jesus sees him… always with love!
2/11/2024 James 5:8
”You, too, must be patient. Don’t give up hope. The Lord will soon be here.“ James 5:8 — God’s Word
God is in control. Even if the future seems to be crashing, at the ultimate future Jesus is waiting for us. In the meantime, give love and kindness to all. Spread God’s love and trust Him to work in all our lives.
2/10/2024 — Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
“Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do. Suppose either of them falls down. Then the one can help the other one up. But suppose a person falls down and doesn’t have anyone to help them up. Then feel sorry for that person!“
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 — New International Revised Version
I have seen this so clearly this week. One person has so much influence over another. One person just being there for another can change the whole trajectory of the other’s life. I thank God for the people in my life and I hope He is using me for others in the same way.
2/9/2024 — 2 Corinthians 10:5
”We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.“ 2 Corinthians 10:5 — New Living Translation
I am on a campaign to destroy all my thoughts about not trusting God. All my negativity has to be corralled and my focus has to be on how good things are along my way and my loved ones’ ways.
2/8/2024 — Isaiah 61:3
”…He sent me to give them flowers in place of their sorrow, olive oil in place of tears, and joyous praise in place of broken hearts. They will be called “Trees of Justice,” planted by the Lord to honor his name.“ Isaiah 61:3 — Contemporary English Version
I find it hard to believe that my sadness will be wiped away, that anything but grief will live in my heart. What does that even mean, “trees of justice”? I turn all my thoughts over to You, Lord but I’m still going to cry and not understand. Give me a new hope.
2/7/2024 — James 1:6
”Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next.“ James 1:6 — The Passion Translation
Ask God for wisdom, for guidance, for help. Believe that He is in control. LEAVE it to Him! Don’t second guess, don’t take back the problem.
2/6/2024 — James 1:25
”But those who set their gaze deeply into the perfecting law of liberty are fascinated by and respond to the truth they hear and are strengthened by it—they experience God’s blessing in all that they do!“ James 1:25 — The Passion Translation
I’m not sure I “study” the Bible enough but I certainly place myself in it and ask God to help me follow it daily.
2/5/2024 — James 1:2
“My friends, be glad, even if you have a lot of trouble.”
I can find joyful things even during hard times. God says He loves me. That’s a joy. He says He’ll never leave me. That’s a joy. He says He has good things for me. That’s a joy. He says I already have a place in eternity. That’s a comforting joy!
2/4/2024 — James 1:5
”If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given to you. God is generous and won't correct you for asking.“ James 1:5 — Contemporary English Version
I am stressed out about upcoming travels (I do not travel well. I prefer my quiet house). I am not looking forward to the unknown, nor do I feel I have the flexibility to go with the flow. I realize it is a waste to fret over what will hopefully have joyful moments. I guess that’s God’s wisdom for me today. Look for and appreciate the joyful moments in stressful times.
2/3/2024 — Isaiah 43:2
”You will pass through deep waters. But I will be with you. You will pass through the rivers. But their waters will not sweep over you. You will walk through fire. But you will not be burned. The flames will not harm you.“ Isaiah 43:2 — New International Revised Version
There WILL be hard times. God doesn’t promise to keep me free from those. (Too bad.) He does promise that I have nothing to fear. The things I worry about will in the end turn out fine because God says so.
2/2/2024 — Colossians 3:13
”Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you.“ Colossians 3:13
I choose to forgive and it isn’t a one time deal. Choosing is a continuous action I can do every time unsettling feelings occur. It is something that people in far worse circumstances are doing daily. Learn from them.
2/1/2024 — Proverbs 15:1
”A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.“ Proverbs 15:1 — New Living Translation
Though it doesn’t happen often sometimes I just feel like I’ve been gentle long enough and I just want to be heard. It rarely turns into anything helpful but at least I feel like I’m not being stepped on….
When my feathers get ruffled I need to think of the gentleness God wants me to cultivate.
1/31/2024 — James 2:19-20
”It’s good that you believe that God is one. Ha! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble with fear. Are you so slow? Do you need to be shown that faith without actions has no value at all?“ James 2:19-20 — Common English Bible
I feel I am guilty of declaring my faith and then sitting back and not DOING anything…. I always have some excuse. When I was young I was too busy or too shy or didn’t have the knowledge. Now I find myself saying I don’t have the energy or any abilities or I’m too old.
An action? Prayer, showing love, donating time and money…
1/30/2024 — Psalms 23:4
”Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.“ Psalms 23:4 — New Living Translation
I am still dreading the future but trying to keep fear at bay. God is with me. He loves me and He loves who I love. Don’t focus on the impossible and the ugly possibilities. Be foolish in my trust of the Lord.
1/29/2024 — James 1:21
”So get rid of everything that is sinful. Get rid of the evil that is all around us. Don’t be too proud to accept the word that is planted in you. It can save you.“ James 1:21 — New International Revised Version
Gardening. I must weed my garden before sowing seeds. In the same way, I have to throw away doubt and pride before God’s Word can be planted. Ready the soil with weeding. Ready my heart with prayer to BELIEVE what God says whether I understand it or not.
1/28/2024 — James 1:17
”Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father above, who gave us the sun, moon, and stars. But unlike them, the light that comes from the Great Spirit never dims, flickers, or casts a shadow.“ James 1:17 — First Nations Version
God’s perfect Word is filled with hope and life and guidance. Why is it in my depths I doubt that God might be speaking through the Bible to me? How many times have I come across the perfect verse in the Bible? Hasn’t my life to this point been filled with joy and good things? Find the hope in God’s Word and believe it is for me.
1/27/2024 — 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
”We often suffer, but we are never crushed. Even when we don't know what to do, we never give up. In times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get up again.“ 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 — Contemporary English Bible
I failed miserably yesterday when I let a change of plans disrupt my cultivated peace…. All doubts and fears and what ifs and trying to foresee the future sent me into collapse! I am a terrible witness of peace in God’s presence. Forgive me again, Lord.
1/26/2024 — James 2:18
”But someone will say, “Faith is what is needed,” while another says, “Good deeds are what is needed.” I say that both are needed. You show me your faith without good deeds, and I will show you my faith by the good deeds I have done.“ James 2:18 — First Nations Version
I understand how faithful people show their faith with good deeds and I am thankful. But hasn’t God also allowed the non-faithful to work wonderful good deeds? That is also a great blessing but it does make the faith of believers hard to see…. I’m not complaining, just pondering.
1/25/2024 — Matthew 12:34
”You poisonous snakes! How can you evil people say anything good? Your mouth says what comes from inside you.“ Matthew 12:34 — God’s Word
When I’m unconsciously swearing under my breath I wonder if my real heart is troubled, angry and ugly. I wonder if when I’m old and in the depths of dementia if I’ll be a swearing crazed woman who can’t control herself.
Dear Lord, I leave all in Your control.
1/24/2024 — Proverbs 29:11
”Foolish people cannot control their anger. But wise people are patient.“ Proverbs 29:11 — Easy English Bible
I’d say that I don’t have a problem with anger. I don’t blow up, I don’t say harsh words. I’m known for being easy-going. Yet, I know that I swear under my breath, I clam up and let emotions fester…. Maybe not all is good.
Lord, I need to learn how You want me to express my anger…. Am I doing it the right way?
1/23/2024 — James 2:22
”Abraham believed in God, and he did what God asked him to do. So you can see that both of these were necessary. When he did this good thing, he showed that he believed in God completely.“ James 2:22 — Easy English Bible
God only asks that I do what He has appointed me to do. I’m not expected to make everything right… I’m not expected to stick my head in the sand.
What is my role in this upcoming crisis? To stay calm. To love unconditionally. To give help when needed and step back when the focus has to be elsewhere. To pray, to hope, to trust, to lean on God.
1/22/2024 — Galatians 6:2
”When anyone among you has troubles, you must help each other. If you do that, you will be obeying Christ's rule.“ Galatians 6:2 — Easy English Bible
I know that sharing my sorrows and feelings is important for mental health… but I cannot. This is something that I pour out to God and occasionally my husband. I will not share further.
How many of my friends and acquaintances and just people I pass on the street, feel the same way? God have mercy on us who hide behind smiling faces.
1/21/2024 — James 4:6
”In fact, God treats us with even greater kindness, just as the Scriptures say, “God opposes everyone who is proud, but he blesses all who are humble with undeserved grace.”“ James 4:6 — Contemporary English Version
Grace is a beautiful word telling me to be forgiving, kind, merciful, loving. Grace can’t be earned or taken. It is always given as a gift. Accept grace. Give grace.
1/20/2024 — James 2:1
”My Christian friends, you must be kind to everyone. You trust the Lord Jesus Christ, who is great in heaven. So do not think that anyone is more valuable than any other person.“ James 2:1 — Easy English Bible
I don’t consider myself to be prejudice but honestly, I hear that someone is Christian and I think of them differently…. I hope I don’t TREAT them differently but I wonder about my subconscious…
In this non-Christian country where I live, I need to respect others’ beliefs even if they don’t align with my own.
1/19/2024 — 1 Samuel 16:7
”…for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”“ 1 Samuel 16:7 — New American Standard Bible
I think I am without prejudice but I judge books by their covers, I assume people are one way or the other because they are “city” people or “country” people.
I don’t want to be judgmental. I want to see people and situations as God sees them.
1/18/2023 — 2 Chronicles 19:7
”Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.”“ 2 Chronicles 19:7 — New International Version
God created variety! Because He made us all so different we should not get caught up in the differences always trying to stay with people that are like ourselves. If people don’t look like, think like, act like me… well, Praise The Lord!!! Another opportunity to learn to love!
1/17/2023 — James 2:8
”But the message of God's kingdom is this: ‘Love other people as much as you love yourself.’ That is what the Bible says. If you really do that, you do well.“ James 2:8 — Easy English Bible
God put me in this period of time, in this family, on this street! There is a reason for me being where I am. Find ways to love my neighbor… be welcoming and smile!
1/16/2024 — James 2:16-17
”you shouldn't just say, “I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat.” What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? Faith that doesn't lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead!“ James 2:16-17 — Contemporary English Version
I can’t see that my faith is helping anyone (but me). We’ve had a major earthquake yet I’m not doing anything practical. I’m not even donating money because 1) I’m not sure I trust the systems that are asking and 2) it seems that there is so much that needs to be done and $10 or so now and then isn’t anything at all…. Is this Satan working in my brain? And what about all the other un-earthquake related problems… it’s overwhelming.
1/15/2024 — James 2:14
”Suppose a person claims to have faith but doesn’t act on their faith. My brothers and sisters, can this kind of faith save them?“ James 2:14 — New International Revised Version
Tough times are the opportunities to live by faith.
I am in a tough time… just saying I have faith means very little. I have to live it. Stay positive. Stay in God’s Word and don’t let what I see as negative color my life. Don’t give in to despair. I’m not trying to hide my true feelings, I’m just trying to not let them get a hold of me and my mental health.
1/14/2024 — Matthew 4:4
”Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.”“ Matthew 4:4 — Message Bible
The key word in this verse is “steady”. Again, reading the Bible ONCE is not going to do it. I’m not even sure readout once a day is enough! Start and end the day in Scripture. Leave my Bible open and ready to read.
1/13/2024 — 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
”Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.“ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 New Living Translation
Recently a theme goes through my head. “Once is not enough.”
Forgiveness is a repeating process. Being thankful must become a habit. Praying isn’t a one time event. The act of loving changes with time and situation. Focusing on God is a choice I make moment by moment.
1/12/2024 — Matthew 7:7-8
”“Let your prayers rise like smoke to the Great Spirit, for he will see and answer you. Every step is a prayer, and as you dance upon the earth for the things you seek, the way will open before you. In the same way, as you search for the true ancient pathways, you will find them. Answers will come to the ones who ask, good things will be found by the ones who search for them, and the way will open before the ones who keep dancing their prayers.” — Matthew 7:7-8 First Nations Version
Jesus gave us the parable of continuing to ask. He knew ahead of time that there would be times when God’s silence seems like a rebuff or worse, set us doubting God’s love and presence.
In those times, pray. God promises to be with us and when He returns (physically) how many of us will still be clinging to our faith to welcome Him.
Heavenly Father (Great Spirit in the First Nations Version)give me strength.
1/11/2024 — 1 Kings 18:42
”So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.“ 1 Kings 18:42 — New Living Translation
How should I pray? On my knees? Running my fingers over my labyrinth quilt? Sitting at my desk?
Elijah prayed in an odd position but there is no doubt it was fervent and even though there were no results at first, he continued his prayer.
1/10/2024 — Luke 1:38
”“I am the Lord's servant,” said Mary; “may it happen to me as you have said.” And the angel left her.“ Luke 1:38 — Good News Bible
Prayers are not a means to manipulate God. Prayers are asking to be used in the process that God has already begun.
God has already begun a work in my (and my loved one’s) life. I ask that He use me in His plan and I intercede, asking that He use the ones I love with mercy and protection.
1/9/2024 — Luke 11:8
”Well, what then? I tell you that even if he will not get up and give you the bread because you are his friend, yet he will get up and give you everything you need because you are not ashamed to keep on asking.“ Luke 11:8 — Good News Bible
If my husband had given up asking me to marry him our lives would be very different. Each time he asked I pointed out he was impractical, we didn’t even speak the same language!
Asking once is not enough. Being persistent, prostrating myself in prayer and asking, asking, asking. God will honor that.
1/8/2024 — John 16:23-24
”At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.“ John 16:23-24 — New Living Translation
Do I LIKE to pray or do I just do it because it is good for me? Praying is a privilege! It is God allowing me to speak directly to Him. He has given me the opportunity to bring the heavenly to earth when I ask in Jesus name. The whole attitude of prayer is an action of intercession for my world, for my loved ones, for myself. I don’t know what to pray for? What around me right now is not heavenly? Start there.
1/7/2024 — Psalms 139:1
”You have looked deep into my heart, Lord, and you know all about me.“ Psalms 139:1 — Contemporary English Version
Lord, You know that though I say I trust You, I still have doubts and my fears are only beneath the surface. Forgive me for not offering all of myself. Help me to lay down more and more of my concerns and to back away from them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
1/6/2024 — Matthew 6:9
”“This is how you should pray. “ ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored.“
Matthew 6:9 — New International Revised Version
These things to remember.
God is the ruler over heaven and earth.
He is my FATHER and He loves me and protects me.
He is OUR father and that means I have a family of other believers all around me ready to help and pray for me.
1/5/2024 — Psalms 46:10
”He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”“ Psalms 46:10 — New International Version
“Exalted in the earth” means God’s presence becomes reality, plainly visible. It means love breaks out everywhere there is hate. Kindness floods competition and sweeps it away. Peace swallows up fear. Joy washes over jealousy. Self-control calms rage. Here’s the way God promises to get all that done: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
This is the promise when we choose stillness when before God.
1/4/2024 — Philippians 4:3
”Do not let your hearts be weighed down with anything. Instead, with every step you take, send your voice to the Great Spirit, asking him for the things you need. And in all your prayers remember to give him thanks.“ Philippians 4:3 — First Nations Version
I have this verse underlined in every Bible I’ve used. One thing is sure… pray as I can… if I can’t believe, pray. If I can’t praise, pray. If I can’t stop crying, pray. Don’t pretend. Just pray.
1/3/2024 — 1 Timothy 2:1
”I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.“ 1 Timothy 2:1 — New Living Translation
Pray. Intercede. Give thanks. Jesus did and does intercede for us. When I pray, “in Jesus’ name.” I am asking Jesus to speak for me. And the Holy Spirit is always interceding and linking me to God. Do as Jesus does for others. Pray.
1/2/2024 — Luke 23:42
”Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you enter your kingdom.”“ Luke 23:42 — God’s Word
Dear Lord, remember me who loves you and wants to do Your will. Lord, remember the people affected by the earthquake. Most of them don’t know You but they are Your children too. God remember … bring … to faith in You this year. Father, remember … even though … turns away. You are so needed. Lord, be with … and continue to give joy. In Jesus name, Amen.
1/1/2024 -- Romans 8:27 -- God's Word
The one who searches our hearts knows what the Spirit has in mind. The Spirit intercedes for God's people the way God wants him to.
One of God's gifts to me is the Spirit who knows my heart and is praying for me. My gift to others is to share their burdens and my prayer of intercession.
