Tetsu feels he is doing his fatherly duty when he protects his children (and me) with new tires. There was one summer when we were visiting Takumi together in LA and Tetsu was appalled at the state of Takumi's nearly bald tires. No matter that Tetsu couldn't participate in the conversation with the tire salesman, he scooted Takumi to the tire store and the car was outfitted within the hour!
So Leiya has new tires, we have new tires. Let the winter come! (I hope Takumi is taking care of his own tire situation this year... At least he doesn't need snow tires.)
Tetsu reminds me of my own father. Always very caring and practical no matter the costs. This makes me miss my father very very much. You are a good father Tetsu.

LOL - my husband is not concerned about our vehicles he never thinks about it - I am the one who always has to be looking at the tires in our family! I check out the tires on my older daughters car also as she is like her father - off in never never land not being realistic a procrastinator just like her father and her husband is a dreamer never thinking of things. Thank heavens our younger daughter is more like me and takes care of things in her family too - some women just have to be like Tetsu and think of these things :) hope you do not have a bad winter in Japan - ours is off to a icy start.
ReplyDeleteI learned to drive in Ohio before there was such a thing as snow tires. I took my driving test the first day back at school after a three foot snow fall. No automatic transmissions in those days and I had to make a hill start on the steepest hill in town ... but I lived at the top of that hill and had plenty of practice. I passed the testand as yet, have never owned such a luxury of snow tires.
ReplyDeleteI don't think changing to snow tyres is common in the UK, though possibly in the north of Scotland where snow might lay on the ground for longer. We sometimes don't get snow at all in the winter, sometimes we get two or three falls that will lay for up to a week or two, but it's not around for long enough to bother with different tyres. The main roads get cleared very quickly so as long as we can slither and slide our way on to them everything is fine.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I did a 180 spinning turn on a busy street. Scared me a lot. Hubby has always put on snow tires now and it is a ritual. We get a lot of ice and snow messes in flat Indiana and Ohio is the same with more hills. A terrific present for your daughter. Very caring father. Ana from US
ReplyDeleteWe just bought new tires for our daughter for Christmas, too. :) It is definitely a fatherly protective thing. I'm glad most Dads have that gene.

ReplyDeleteGot mine since the end of October. In the province of Quebec, Canada, winter tires are mandatory on our vehicle, from December 15 until March 15 of each year. I usually have them installed earlier than those dates, because you can not predict when the snow will fall.

We are in Ohio and when I read your post it occurred to me that we do not use snow tires anymore. I just asked my husband why we don't have snow tires anymore. He has always been diligent about keeping our car safe and up to date on everything. He said we don't need snow tires with front wheel drive and with the more aggressive tread on our all weather tires. I can remember back when we had studded snow tires and before that when people used chains on their tires; I think that was before the streets were plowed and salted the way they are now.

ReplyDeleteNo, snow tires not required here! But chains are, for going up to the local mountains when it is snowy! I've never driven in snow but was once in a car that did a 360 on black ice! That was scary.
