Day 16 - More fabric

Things are slow around here.  Yesterday Marcy and I made a trip to M and L's again.  And you know what that means...  I NEEDED more fabric!

In this case I really did need more fabric as I have been on the sewing machine steadily and finally got the main part of Colin's quilt finished.  After the blocks were made it meant spreading them out on Grandma's living room floor but with the many nurses and nursing assistants and social workers and chaplain coming in I really needed to get the quilt into one big piece so that I can put it away.

"Yes, please come in.  And could you just jump over those blocks until I get them sewn together into the right order?"

Marcy and I were at M and L's buying border fabrics and backing and today my goal is to get some borders on... and then pack this all away until I get back to Japan.  I'm not going to attempt to quilt such a big quilt here.  In Japan I have a very large extended table to hold a quilt's weight and my Japanese sewing machine just seems less finicky than the one I keep in California.  Too bad I have to lug the flimsy around and send the finished quilt in the mail to Colin at a later date but I'll probably get better results at home.

Grandma asked what I was sewing in her living room and when I suggested she come and see she surprised me by agreeing to get out of bed and allowed herself to be moved to a wheel chair.  She watched the border sewing process for about 20 minutes (let's say she sat in the chair 20 minutes...  She alternated between napping and watching) and then wanted to be back in her nice hospital bed.

I also bought a ream of fabrics in rainbow colors for... a new project!  Of course.  It is lovely to be stuck in a house with a sewing machine.
