And, oh well, if I must admit it, I went to the doctor to consult about toenails of all things! I have always hated my feet with their ugly bulging bunions and crooked toes. I have a dumb insole that makes walking easier but I usually wear ugly black shoes. When I'm in the States I get a once a year pedicure in hopes that the Birkenstock sandals will have a little flair to them, but I'm really embarrassed to show my feet. And now, on top of all that, my toenails are recently turning thick and yellow!!!! Monster feet!!! I am NOT wearing sandals this summer if they look like this!!!
The dermatologist gave me medication to take... and here I was thinking I could just dab something magically on my toenails and they'd come back pretty and pink. So Chip and I are BOTH gagging down tablets.
Can you tell which is mine and which ones (she gets two types) are Chip's? Pharmacists and vets just hand out foil wrapped tablets (no child proof bottles in Japan) and it would be very easy to mix these up...
Look closely and you can see that two of the foil packages have animal footprints on them! Oh good, because Chip's toenails are fine and I don't have potty accidents so we don't want to take each others medicines!
Sorry, but I have to smile at the packaging, identification made so easy when you know what to look for. Cheers,Jean
ReplyDeleteI have to wear lace-up shoes or boots too, as i have orthotics and need extra support for the instep. I have become resigned that I can't wear pretty shoes, that don't look pretty on my feet anyway. I get my shoes from a company called Hotter and at least they do some reasonably stylish lace-ups in bright and cheerful colours. It's a pain when I want to wear a dress in the summer though, they don't look so good with clunky shoes.
ReplyDeleteWell, my body is pretty ugly all over except for my feet. Once we were in Yamaguchi area for a ship launching and I had a massage by a blind masseur. He commented on my feet at the end. Then several years later we were back to that hotel and had the same guy come to our room. Believe it or not, when he got to my feet, he remembered I had been there years earlier. Thr crooked back didn't impress him at all.
ReplyDeleteOne more fun fact to learn about Japan from you - no medicine bottles. My daughter had your toenail fungus issues and the medication cleared up the problem beautifully - it did take some time though as the toenail (in her case only one toe) had to grow out completely.
ReplyDeleteI hope your podiatrist did a liver functions test to go with those pills. I took them, too. awhile back.
ReplyDeleteOh ho ho! This gave me a needed good laugh this morning Taniwa - NOT to say I am laughing at Chip's issues or your feet mind you! :) With a house full of kittys (3) and 2 small dogs I know what a circus it can be. I beg my vet for liquid medicine if possible as I hate having to wrap the kitties tightly in towels in order to prevent being gouged whilst giving pills! Ouch! I also have had the toenail uglies, same as you describe. I too took the pills and did do a bit of self prescribed doctoring. I would cut my toenails as short as I could and then soak them twice daily with full strength vinegar. The acidic vinegar supposedly kills the bacteria that causes this affliction. Old wives tale? Who knows but I've been free of the uglies for years now. Hope yours heals quickly, and I would go ahead and wear sandals, the toenails need as much air to keep them dry once the weather turns rainy and humid. Best, Ani
