Reflections quilt progress
I spent part of the afternoon sewing my "Reflections" blocks together.
Now they are all in one piece!
Actually, one day I had arranged the blocks up on my design wall, a piece of flannel pinned to the wall, and started cutting more fabric for blocks. And when I turned around,, PLOP, there was my design flannel and most of the blocks on the floor! I'm going to have to figure out a better way to pin my flannel onto the wall. Or maybe figure out a way to make a larger frame as my flannel isn't really very large (and I end up pinning blocks to the wall). Anybody had any success making a design wall large enough for a bed size quilt?
Sorry, this is an odd angel for this shot but furniture was in the way. I should be done with this flimsy but I think I will add a border as it is still a tad small...

ReplyDeleteGet two pieces of 1" insulation board and a Home Depot (do they have them in Japan?) or some other hardware type store, cover them with flannel or batting and stand them next to each other. It's portable too.
ReplyDeleteI made a frame with PVC pipe and put a casing on top and bottom edges of my flannel. I only glued top bar and bottom bar to the 4 corners, not the side bars. I use clips and elastic on the sides. Take it apart and roll pipes inside of flannel to store, clips & elastic get wrapped around bundle. Very portable and just leans on wall.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Love the secondary squares they make. I have no design wall but wouldn't have room for a full sized quilt anyway in my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI have no wall space as large as a bed but I have often thought of making a folding screen with maybe three panels and hinges and storing it behind the sofa when not in use.

ReplyDeleteIt's different, of course, but I play all kinds of games trying to lay out my squares for crochet afghans to get the colors I want them. Usually they are on the bed, then I string them on an old piece of yarn so I can put them together in the order I am chosen.
I love that quilt - a great scrappy project!

You can try pinning to an old sheet and then just fold it up when you need to - to get it our of the way!
Hi Tanya....an idea for a permanent flannel wall....put a heading in the flannel....now run a wooden dowel, the width of the flannel, thru the heading....then have Tetsu put two hooks, nails, screws whatever on the wall, at each end of the rod....hang flannel or remove whenever you like......just an idea....hugs, Pat in IN
