Today is the last day of Golden Week and Tetsu and I are wondering if it is wise to battle the traffic for one last vacation day out. The toll roads back up for miles and miles at the end of holidays and though we could probably get up to the lakes of Nikko if we left now (8:00 in the morning), it might be a chore to get back home this evening... We are still dilly-dallying around.
On one day we did go off on a long drive to check out a limestone cave that we had heard about with stalactites and stalagmites. It was very interesting and a lot of fun to crawl through the cave but unfortunately no photography was allowed which is a big disappointment for me (though with the dim lighting it is probably nearly impossible to take photos anyway). Let's just say, for good or for bad, passing through the knobby walls of the cave and skirting around stalagmites was not unlike going through a Disney attraction... Wasn't it Tom Sawyer's island that had a cave one could explore?

We took Choco with us on this long drive but we made potty trips for her at parks that we passed through.

Back home, yesterday's holiday spirit was called off when I realized Toi was having bathroom problems. Called the vet and left a message on his answering machine at 8:00 in the morning. He called back at 10:00 and told us to bring Toi in. Sure enough a urinary blockage (which all the other male cats that we have ever owned and own have had) so with the vet and his wife and Tetsu and me, (no nurses on duty) we held Toi down as he got IVs and other icky treatments. Toi did not like it one bit and all of us ended up plastered with Band-aids. I got the worst of it. Five Band-aids. Arghh! I just realized I have to go stuff a tablet down Toi's throat this morning too! He doesn't seem to be having anymore problems so I guess I'll not complain about injuries suffered.
Sorry to hear about Toi. I know just what the problem is for the male cats and the difficulty in giving them medication. Hope both you and Toi heal quickly.

ReplyDeleteI remember zipping one of our cats into a mesh laundry bag in order to avoid being ripped to shreds.
So sorry for Toi, ( and for all fingers too) this is very common for the boys. Lovely azalea blooms, did you have any damage after the quake early Monday morning? Take care, Jean.

ReplyDeleteOh, poor Toi, and sorry for you, too. Hope the your fingers heal easily and quickly. Bill had to take Miss ZZ,, our 8 month female tortoise shell to the vet...she has some kind of dermatitis, "hot spots" and something. No fleas or other critters. When Bill and I put her in the carrier, we knew we were in for a battle.....she tried everything to get away from us; but we "won" that part of the day. Then Bill takes ZZ in the carrier into the exam room....and as soon as she realized the door was going to open, she began to pee-pee all over the carrier, and continued to pee-pee all over the floor, the exam table....vet says not uncommon...anyway, ZZ got antibiotic injection and we''ll see how that goes....I think I'll ask for a light anti-anxiety that we could give her prior to her being put into the carrier...whew, that a morning......and I've rattled way toooo long.....hugs, Pat in IN

I can relate to your and Toi's pain. Inky #2 had multiple UT blocks and midnight rides to the vet. Had to take him to an on-call vet one night and pick him up to take to his own vet next morning. He peed on my lap non-stop for about 6 or 7 miles. He was almost 16 when he went over Rainbow Bridge, last 4 or 5 years he was diabetic and had 2 shots a day.
